According to the German site, Zehnachtzig, this title has not been included in Studio Canal's official announcement of their July releases. It is assumed, therefore, that this is now a Media Markt exclusive, hence it no longer being available to order from amazon.de.

I'm very interested to see a review for the German disc when it is released on the 25th June or, for that matter, the French disc which has been released today. Since both releases are from Studio Canal, who also hold the distribution rights in the UK, it will provide some clues as to the disc being included in the forthcoming Zavvi Steelbook.

There has been no announcement, to date, from Studio Canal as to the specifications of the disc being released in any of the territories for which they hold the distribution rights. Those French and German sites which have it listed, have merely repeated the specifications of the previous Skynet edition released in 2009. Unsurprisingly, Zavvi's site provides no assistance in respect of the specifications of their forthcoming UK release.

Interestingly, the published artwork of the new French and German releases makes no mention of this being the Skynet edition, which makes me hope that the forthcoming Studio Canal releases will prove identical to that released in the US on the 19th May by Lionsgate.

The new US release slipped in under the radar and has been confirmed on blu-ray dot com, by those who have it, to be a different disc to the earlier Skynet one. Although not the hoped for 4k remaster that we've all been waiting for, it is a new MPEG-4 AVC encode (previous disc was VC-1). The picture quality is superior to that of the Skynet disc and has little to no DNR, so that the natural grain of the original film stock, scrubbed from the Skynet transfer, is back. The menus of the earlier disc, which took forever to load, have also been changed to ones which load much faster.

The new US disc only contains the Theatrical and Unrated Cuts of the movie since it has lost the Easter Egg of the 3rd Extended Cut. Also missing are the commentaries, deleted scenes and trailers. So, it's swings and roundabouts but I'll take a better picture over extras any day. Besides, those extras can be found on the earlier Skynet disc which most people here will already own.

The big question, therefore, is whether Studio Canal's forthcoming UK and European releases of T2 will be the new encode or merely a repackage of the earlier Skynet one?

Zavvi have not any new terminator 2 listing

They have only have new listings of Terminator and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines

They don't have as of yet any new listing for Terminator 2

The USA Lionsgate recent release is USA only

The release from StudioCanal will most likely be the skynet edition just repackaged in a Steelbook
As will Terminator 3 the same as the previous Disc from Sony
There has been no new Amaray Blu ray announced for either film by them
StudioCanal or Sony
They would usually announce if a new Blu-ray re master was getting a release but don't when it's a re release of a same previous disc

It would be great if it happened but I don't expect the discs to have new re master

I asked yesterday Amazon.de directly if this is a steelbook or an amaray like the french one. Their reply was it's a steelbook.
Today I received an automated e-mail telling me the release date is now unknown...

I cancelled my order today
I will wait till I see a video and photos of the actual Steelbook before I decide if I want to get it

Looks ok bar the spine disaster
The spot gloss looks good to me but overall it could have been better

I would have preferred this steelbook had some embossing or debossing

The poster I wonder is that a media market exclusive

The spot gloss is actually so thick that it does feel a little bit embossed (which of course it is not) which is pretty nice, seeing as the rest of the steelbook (especially the missing inside artwork and no title on the spine (n)) isn't particularly great. Still a nice looking steelbook though overall and the price isn't half bad, considering you get all 3 versions of the film (Cinematic Release, Special Edition, Extended Special Edition). :cigar:

The poster is no exclusive and is included in every edition of this steelbook.

It might have been when finished someone noticed they forgot to do the inside artwork will the customer notice :giggle:
Stick a poster inside to look as if it does have inside artwork

I'm just hoping Film Arena come to our rescue and give us something better to make up for the overall disappointment of this steelbook release

@paulboland At least we get a poster. Doesn't really make up for the missing artwork inside but it's better than nothing (which is too often the case). :) A release by Filmarena would be awesome and I'd get that for sure.
