Well, not sure I'll buy, but it does look like sometime and effort has gone into the artwork. Although it isn't a favourite film of mine, it is nice to see moreof a range of titles getting steel treatment.
While I've only been buying steelbooks for the last year or so my observations are that the vast majority of steelies are blockbuster, big budget movies of the last 25 years or so. The truth is there may well be markets for less high profile titles, and /or something that's not a superhero, action, fantasy, or Disney movie.*
What about a Woody Allen collection? Kurosawa, John Ford, Universal horrors, You get the idea. Would everyone on here buy them ? Of course not. But like it or not numbers of steels will continue to climb and people will have to become more choosy about what to spend their hard earned cash on. Studios are all looking for new ways to monetise their properties. They know as years pass the demand for new physical media is set to dwindle, as cloud storage/access of media takes a hold. Steelbooks are seen as a premium product that can be targeted at collectors giving them something they don't currently have. When I see what Arrow and Blufans and others are doing with booklets and artwork then that looks like the way forwards. High quality product that has extras ( booklets etc) unavailable elsewhere...

Which is my VERY long-windedly way of saying,at least this is something different, and some thought has gone into the art itself. Does it really deserve the bashing? Share some striped pajama love...

*btw I collect Marvel steels and have just begun getting the Disneys, so I'm not being elitist ( I can't spell elitist without spellcheck,..

Your observations are pretty accurate, which makes you wonder why so many people would be getting their knickers in a twist over the release of the odd film like this.

I have been sticking up for this release since the thread started. I can't understand why there is so much negativity. It's a good movie and looks to have great artwork, just because it is a different genre to every other steelbook does not make it a bad thing. Some variety is good. If you do not like the film then don't buy it but at least it is here for the people who want it.

Years ago, the 'blockbuster' is exactly what was targeted for Steel. There were years of discussion whether other titles would would. Though this film has always been of interest to me I have never seen it. I may blindbuy but we'll see, lots of good Steels to choose from from various sources, imo.

Exactly DB, there is lots to choose from, so there is no need for all the negativity over a title like this just because it does not fit the norm or is not to their personal taste.

Now THIS is a steelbook I will buy.

I'm kinda cutting way down on my habbit of collecting movies. Not even cool editions will get to me. But I must say it's been a while since I've seen something this unique and original. I did not expect this for this movie. I'll pray Zavvi doesn't **** this up.
