Q) What is the purpose of this thread?
A) To discuss Ebay policies/issues

Q) Where can i find the Ebay Presale Policy?
A) Click HERE

Q) Can a HDN Trade mod help me with an Ebay sale/trade issue? Also why is there no 'ebay bad traders' list?
A) Simply put, no. To find out why, ensure you read the following spoiler:
please use this thread as a RESOURCE to ask your fellow members about problems you've had with a reseller or questions about e-bay.

do NOT use this thread to attack or refute other members. if you an e-bay dispute with a member here, perhaps it's best to approach a trading mod before posting? we don't police e-bay, but maybe we can give you a tip or two.

if members ignore these suggestions, then the thread might be locked for a couple of weeks.

thank you.

hey folks,

as a reminder what myself (and other mods) have continued to mention via private message, e-mail and other areas. we do NOT police other trading marketplaces like ebay, youtube, amazon and the rest.

there is ONLY a certain amount of information at our disposal and we do not have the resources in these other locations as we do on this forum - things that we can look at and evaluate.

having said that, there are trading rules on this forum that have been instituted for your own protection for trading transactions that happen HERE.

this includes the pending / active sales threads, the requirement of feedback posted for any new traders, our support ticketing system, the active investigations held by trading moderators and many other things we do not discuss openly.

we have long held that problems occurring on these other forums and marketplaces should be taken the appropriate authorities on THOSE websites.

many of you are established traders here on this forum and you should know all about the guidelines that are stickied in this section - including having new traders send first, getting tracking from the other party and proof of shipment, and what other precautions can be taken to protect your trading safety.

trading via ebay and their messaging system is against their stated policy and should not occur - and there are reasons why they have created that policy. you don't have protection of paypal or their listing system as a buyer or seller.

having said that, if there is trouble with an ebay seller or buyer, you should go to their website and report it there. if you are not aware of this process, follow the below link for more information.

http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/buy/report-trading.html

so folks can feel free to chat about a seller or buyer that they are having problems with, but I can tell you right now - there will not be a "witch hunt" by moderators or staff based on one person's account of the problems or trouble they are having - and we limit the action taken for or against members here to transactions that occurred on this forum.

as stated in the thread title of our bad traders list - that list is for FORUM MEMBERS ONLY.

thank you.
Q) Where can i find the HDN Buyer Beware / Bad Traders list?

Ninjas!

I want your advice.

I sold 2 items on ebay on 2 separate auctions. A buyer won both items so i decided to offer him combined postage of £3.99.

He then wasn't happy with one of the steelbook and i asked him to send it back.

should i refund him the £3,99 aswel ??

To avoid someone leaving negative feedback I would.

But some eBay buyers these days are utter douchebags so they might do so anyway.

This is nothing to do with steelbooks, but I purchased 2 Star Wars Animated maquettes on eBay, for £70 each plus £10 shipping. I received them on Friday only to find that they hadn't been adequately packaged resulting in the head breaking off one of them and the gun snapping off the other. So I contacted the seller and opened up a case, and this was the response I received:

'The items were sent secure and boxed with labels all over stating fragile please be careful. The items were securely packackaged. The buyer only wanted to pay £10 for both items to be delivered. It should have cost £16 with the insurance but the buyer refused this. I cannot be held responsible for anything damaged by royal mail or the courier. It left me in perect condition or i would not have sold items myself. Therefore i cannot be held responsible if the buyer refused to pay for extra insurance, and the items were not damaged when they left me. Im very sorry that that the couriers didnt look after the packages. But how can that be my fault.? You will have to seek refund from the couriers. As we cannot afford to give a refund, as you are aware that my husband lost his job and we have little money coming into the home hence why we had to sell his collectables. Im very sorry that the courier did not look after your items'

First of all, I never refused to pay £16 for shipping, I asked if they could reduce the shipping from the original £13 to £10 which they agreed to do, there was no mention at all of this meaning the items would be sent uninsured. And secondly, are people really stupid enough to think 'not my fault, the couriers should have took better care of it, take it up with them' is an acceptable answer? It baffles me how stupid most members on eBay are. I have absolutely no doubts that eBay will find this case in my favour, because the seller does not have a leg to stand on.

It just infuriates me how many bad sellers are on eBay.

Well if you wouldn't pay £13, it's safe to say you wouldn't pay £16...

I don't see why you're infuriated about this, just send it back and you'll get a full refund. While she is wrong about not being held responsible, she is the one that loses money by paying for your return shipping. Hopefully she'll learn to pack her items securely next time.

Need advice on Ebay purchase

Recently purchased a steel from another Canadian seller and had a couple of issues:

1) seller NEVER communicated with me, never marked the item as shipped, even though I emailed him 2 or 3 times asking. It simply turned up to me this morning (about 8 or 9 business days since I paid).

2) Charged me $10.99 (Canadian) for shipping, which would be the expected cost of sending in a box using a tracked method across Canada. However, package turned up in a simple BUBBLE MAILER - actual shipping cost - $2.20!! Damn lucky the steel wasn't damaged.

So, I'm not sure what to do. I think negative feedback is unfortunately a must in this case. I say unfortunately as, although I think it is warranted in this case, I hate giving negative feedback (must be the Canadian in me, eh!).

But, also wondering whether I should attempt to open a case with Ebay/Paypal to get a refund of some of the money I paid for shipping, which obviously was not used for shipping. Is it worth the time/aggravation? Will they actually do anything about it?

I am not saying I always exactly/perfectly charge on shipping when I sell stuff on Ebay, but I am rarely off by more than a $1 or $2 (and sometimes it is not in my favor). This seller charged me nearly 5 times what it actually cost to ship. (And, I guess I should have known as he has 1 negative feedback where someone complains about this very issue :( )

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

East coast i wouldnt leave him neg feedback for that reason i would contact him first and say hey you over charged me he might give you some money back.
Maybe neutral feedback at the most but its up to you off course.

Yeah you got the item, and thankfully in good shape ... I wouldnt leave neg.

I mean they have those star ratings for things like communication, shipping etc. So just ding those down.

I wouldn't leave a negative feedback but would politely ask the seller to refund ezcess postage paid. Not like I would want the exact amount but at least 75% of it as I believe it is okay to charge a few cents extra to cover packaging material costs.
