It's debossed, not embossed (Zavvis own description is wrong). That's why there is no border. Embossing with a border can be done (see Futureshop Hunger Games District 12 steel) but it sticks out and can be susceptible to damage especially if on a shelf between other steels.

I prefer debossing anyway. Much cleaner overall.

Someone said in a previous post the steel is being lit from below so the shadow is on the bottom of the marionette (not the steel under it) and the top has the light again on the marionette (not on the steel above it). Forgive me if it sounds like nonsense. (Edit: Post 280 says it better: https://www.hidefninja.com/forums/showpost.php?p=786447&postcount=280)

Also, the OP seems to have been updated to say debossed.

Folks, I have just made a life-changing decision : I cancelled The Game, 12 Monkeys & Pan's Labyrinth while signing up for Naughtius' Forbidden Planet & Natural Born Killers GBs. Good call ?

First time I cancel something like that on Zavvi.

I think the chances for The Game, 12 Monkeys & Pan's Labyrinth to still be available in 2014 are high, and I think the chances for all three to drop to £9.99 are also quite high. I hope I'm not wrong because I genuinely love those movies and the steels don't look that bad at all, it's just I'm swamped under all the current releases .

Probably a good shout! I'd probably end up getting Natural Born Killers as those ES steels are excellent quality from what I've seen, but I'm not gonna spend £15 on a film I'm not that huge on. The Zavvi titles you listed all look great but yeah, I too am gonna wait for them to drop below £10 and don't think they will sell out - if they do there's always eBay, or they'll just show up again somewhere (I particularly want Pan's Labyrinth and The Game...Twelve Monkeys amaray will do fine for me). I don't have any pre-orders with Zavvi anymore, after they've just dispatched my copy of Seven Samurai (which I only got because it's genuinely exclusive at the moment).

Have just done exactly the same thing, £15 for an old title which has just been put in a shiny new tin.... if the discs themselves were updated with new extra or UV copies were included then maybe... but even then, just "maybe".

This was a hard decision, but with so many great new releases on the horizon and seeing Steels like Close Encounters, Black Swan etc drop to under a tenner - my wallet made the decision for me

I too have cancelled both The Game and 12 Monkeys quite awhile ago... Not really into the matte black steels with a few images thrown on them. Kept Pan's Labyrinth though in hopes they'll change the back to something more suiting, but not going to be too hopeful of that.

Right call, I'd say.

Had this preordered and decided enough mediocre Steelbooks is enough, and cancelled. As I've mentioned before, cutting back my preorders with Zavvi big time. Especially as they will probably be struggling to give these away in a few weeks and we should get the inevitable price slash!
