We have received direct info that North America may still get a Steelbook. I am assigning a 'USA' flag for good karma but there is no confirmation-it could still appear in Canada, as well. If it does happen at all, there is a good possibility that it will be a G2. Art is very likely to be the same/similar 'country-wide' (like 'Salt').

No other info regarding retailer or other info is available at this time. If more info becomes available, that can be released we will post it.As usual, all info is subject to change as decisions are made at various levels.

Thanks,

I was hearing rumors of this, but lets wait and see before cancelin the UK order

Added a poll just for fun-not official feedback. Chime in if you'd support a purchase of this Steel.

If it's the same steelbook as HMV then what's the point? Only interested in buying if it's different; unless it is released first of course & then I'd pick up simply for the convenience of saving a couple bucks on shipping.

I would be first in line and I would even keep my UK order if it had different artwork! But I liked the movie alot

comes out 4/23 in the UK

s7v7n-yeah, every collector is different. I like different covers, too. But the thing is, since the US doesn't get many Steelbooks, and G2 Steelbooks even less of the time(rarely!), collectors in the USA generally get very excited if they see them in store, because they usually have to import them. It's important US collectors our own stores know that we want them sold here in the US, too. It helps when they consider releasing others in the future. As we've seen, Sony has done the 'same' cover across the board in different countries, in the past,so if this happens they'll probably do the same.

the studios should know by now that they would make a killing releasing steelbooks here. what's the problem ?

Steel, it is a complex set of factors behind the scenes that has to do with manufacturing locations, demand of 'collectibles' in the US vs in other countries (which spend SIGNIFICANTLY more on 'special eds of any kind') and several other key factors. Our site passes community feedback to decision makers regularly, and effectively, but there are many other factors at work that have been in place before any of us were collecting. One of the ways we can show support for G2 USA releases is to buy them as they are released.

I would buy it even it is the same steelbook as the other countries just to demonstrate demand in the US steelbook market. US collectors need to buy locally to show that we can support future steelbook releases, exclusive or not. This has nothing to do with outdoing the countries but more with moving the US Blu-ray market to value steelbooks as viable value-add collectibles. I know the Breaking Dawn BD steelbook is G1 but look at the performance of that title -sold out in store everywhere, well almost, on day one. You get the point.

Interesting points but for this steelbook, I don't think they even need to make this a special edition to sell out. Breaking Dawn G1 has a single disc with nothing else, not even a Marketing insert. Plus it is time to build a SB factory here in the US.

Ash, anything aside from a regular 'Amaray' is considered a 'Special Ed'. It also has to do with traditionally different mindset between consumers in different countries and what they 'care' about when buying movies.

Any discussions regarding factories and other strategy shifts are beyond the scope of this 1 release and thread, and that's up to the companies that market and manufacture-all of this info has been suggested for years.

The good news is that we are seeing 'more' G2's (Salt, Halo, etc) in USA, but nothing, like say the 'waves' in Germany for instances. Not that those waves are necessarily spectacular for pockets, or in terms of the quality of releases, imo, but it shows the stark difference in Marketing and retailer, and consumer commitment.

So, lets get back on track-right now this thread pertains to this title. Our site has definitely significantly contributed to the loud chorus (and changes) for US collectors who want to see more G2's-so lets hope we see this one in US:scat: There is no doubt at all that Steelbooks continue to gain in popularity...
