Never bought that comment from Kino. 4k release I would have purchased like a shot and remember we're talking 3 films way more popular on home video than other films that have had a 4k release
UHD disc sales is still only 8% to 13% market share
Costs involved for Kino to do UHD release is high
They be left with lot of discs not sold
The only way they could afford the release would be to share costs with other distributors in Europe and be a joint release in other countries

There is a reason why you dont see likes of Arrow Video do UHD yet as an example

It is not the kind of music and film scores I like - that`s all.
Film Score is by Elmer Bernstein who has done some fantastic film scores Great Escape is one of those films

Elmer Bernstein I had the pleasure of meeting in person in Tower Records and also meet him at one of the most famous Vinyl Sountrack shops in the world 58 dean street records where you could end up seeing a lot a very famous film composers while visiting the store

Is he related to Leonard Bernstein?

I assume that's what they would have done to begin with which is why I'm surprised they didn't go ahead

Criterion USA only releases are Region A locked

cheers paul and bugger, you just saved me some money thought.
was hoping for a 4k release of this, slowly trying to upgrade all my ww2 films over to 4k.
but they need to be region free or B in my case.

bit ironic thought film about the british and americans only available in us format think they missed a trick there, shame.

It's a Blu-ray release USA release
Restoration from a 4K scan

From what I've seen so far it's from the same 4K scan that mgm already done a few years ago but is a new encoding done by Criterion and some new extras

Previous MGM release in 2013 had a lot of DNR applied
Criterion release will have better film encoding

MGM not licenced it to Criterion in UK at the moment.

4K UHD release you be left waiting for MGM to do a release as they not done many back catalogue films on UHD.
