Bluray.com comparing it to the "Patton fiasco" - pretty sure their review of the first release of Patton gave it a high score for it's waxwork presentation. Not doubting that the transfer for The Great Escape is below par but just find their reviews difficult to take seriously when they contradict themselves so badly. Steelbook order not cancelled.

I've cancelled too.
Not a fan of the cover and the transfer was going to it's saving grace for my money. With the reviews being as bad as they are I can't find any reason to want it.
A wasted opportunity.

don't cancel your orders go to dvdbeaver to see review of the blu ray yes its not same standard as lawrence of arabia blu ray but is way better than any previous dvd release so that's makes the blu ray release best version to have

You want the best? Well, you can't always get the best.
Besides, it doesn't look bad at all in reality! You're all cancelling your orders based on ONE review, while there are other positive reviews! This is the best movie ever made.

Buying all the blu-ray and dvd releases of this movie. Maybe also the VHS and laserdisc releases, this is the best movie ever made and the blu-ray transfer is the best transfer this movie has ever got!

Use your eyes and look at the damn differences on dvdbeaver! There's something wrong with your eyes if you can't see that the blu-ray transfer is definitely much better than the previous transfers!

Most of you speaking like that about the transfer haven't even seen the damn movie on blu-ray! You just want to sound like experts and bash the transfer based on one negative review, while you ignore the positive one(s).
That's just childish in my opinion...

I don't get why people are criticising the cover? It's one of the promotional posters from the film - compare that to some of the dreadful ones fox churned out in their recent wave and at least it's authentic and bares a resemblance to the film seeing as it's taken from a scene in the film! It's the best cover I've seen for the film and I've owned the VHS, laserdisc and DVD.

Definitely not cancelling and not getting carried away by a bluray.com review either.

Very well said, lovely Steelbook too. Brilliant film as well, just watch the film and stop complaining about flipping transfers. It's going to be better than the DVD what else matters, like oh man I won't buy this because it's a bad transfer WTH These guys are a couple of pixels short of a brain.

I appreciate that this will look better than the DVD and for me that's a good enough reason to buy this other than it being a Steelbook. I can see where others are coming from though. Is it too much to ask for the studio to give us the best possible quality they can for a brand new catalogue release of a film usually regarded as a classic?
