Yeah collecting steelbooks from around the world and worrying about region coding is pointless and a hassle. When I first started collecting, the third time I found myself double dipping for a movie that was region locked I said "screw this" and ordered a region free player. Now I get whatever steel I want from wherever I want.

I cant wait to get this. I bet the initial looks on all the faces that canceled were priceless when they saw the inhand pics and it was "OOS" yesterday lol.

Thats mean... And we all know it was not OOS! It s back in preorder but if not it would have been in zavvi outlet because of all the cancellations
You know some people like myself have to cancel because we don t have the money to buy every single one steelbook that is out there. Yes it is a Disney and it is quite nice. But OOS nowadays does not mean much...

Well that's a perfectly good choice just as long as you don't moan about region locking ;)

I am not lazy or tight either, and I moan about region locking all the time. It's a stupid idea that needs to stop. It's effectiveness is lame at best. Region Free players are available so how does it solve anything? The internet has made the world "Region Free". Further to that, steelbooks (and other collector's editions) are traded and purchased worldwide now and have been for some time. The only thing region locking does is frustrate collectors and "force" them to buy a Region Free player. It's ridiculous.

I already have a very nice brand new Sony blu ray system that I really like. So what did I do? I had to go buy another brand new Sony BDP-S3100 RF player, just so that I'd have the freedom to buy and watch blu rays from all regions.... and that, my friends, is ridiculous... and it makes no sense.

Zavvi's Jungle Book is the only steel for this movie at the moment. If USA or CAN is able to produce one next year, they should have to compete with all markets. If Zavvi's steel is better, then Zavvi's steel is better. If Futureshop can best it, then nobody, not FS, not the studio, not Disney, not Canada (not anybody) should be concerned about losing sales to the UK.

Therefore, in the name of fair world trade competition, here's what I think about Region Lock.... :BS:

Lol I dont know what i said that was mean. Plus i said "initial facial expression" and put OOS in quotations because like you said, everyone knows its not really sold out. Lighten up. You have plenty of time to get this if you want it. I just found it funny that there was a little Jungle Book canceling party going on then Bam!! Pics showing off how good it looks and zavvi saying it is OOS.

I am not a fan of region coding, and was spoiled during the golding era of HD DVD ;) Unfortunately region coding is part of most studios' marketing plans because the average consumer is not importing movies at all, but ordering or buying within their own region. Our 'collector community' is not representative of 'the masses' in terms of marketshare of the qty of discs sold for a new release, for instance, and the masses in each country is what studios market and cater to given agreed upon licensing agreements within their territories, so they can restrict the majority of sales to specific areas. But as compared to 5 years ago, there are several options of relatively cheap region free BD players ( and before that, DVD players) that have helped scores of people who not only 'collect' limited eds but also those who love movies generally and want to import discs otherwise 'locked' . It is not going away anytime soon, which is why it's a good idea to try and find out if a movie ( if already released in your area) was locked the first time around, so you avoid disappointment. This is of course not always possible, and sometimes discs are labeled (B and C) but are not actually 'locked' so that a Region A player could still play the disc. The labeling is largely done to satisfy licensing agreements, but don't always represent the status of the disc. Please visit the Home Theater area if the site and feel free to take part in the region free player thread chat if you have not already.

The problem here in Japan is that electronics are already often 150%-200% of the price the same thing is available for in the U.S. which makes it difficult for me to pull the trigger. I play everything in my PS3 which seems like a great value considering I can play both games and movies. Shelling out hundreds of dollars for a region free player is a difficult decision.

I too am highly against region coding and think it's archaic at best at this point. It certainly works against those of us living in a foreign country although things have been better the past few years game-wise with region free PS3 and, PSP and DS/DS Lite. Unfortunately, movies tend to be off and on with their locking.

Hey Dvd-very true-your electronics prices like some other countries' movie prices and def challenging in many ways. I have heard of people importing players from elsewhere and using a current converter to get around this, too. The whole situation is definitely a deterrent for enjoying movies in a boundary-less environment.

Has anyone seen the slipcase version of the amaray? I seen it yesterday and thought it looked rather strange. The green shine isn't that good a look. I don't think this one will come anywhere near Aladdin or WFRR but Jungle Book was one of my favourites growing up so I'm all in.
