It's just because its quite expensive, I don't know if it's worth it.

Right, but the problem is: when it gets out of print, it gets even more expensive.

And as far as I'm concerned, I always end up telling myself: "Now that it is discontinued, I have to order it on Ebay". (If it were something easy to find, I wouldn't even care. But once something becomes "rare", I spend ridiculous amounts of money to get it.)

Besides, for a Disney title, it is not really expensive. I remember when it was released, the UK steelbook for ET was as expensive... (and it is still quite expensive for something that is not that hard to find.) The UK steelbook of Ted was also over 22 pounds... and now it's worth half that price. Jungle Book will never be discounted.

I don't know what the shipping rates are outside of Europe, so it may seem even more expensive with added charges.

It's a blu ray, I don't think it's meant to be an investment. Buy it if you're going to enjoy the movie and like steelbooks.

Well i'm not gonna argue with that - but if that's the case (and it seams reasonable), why not print 500,000 of these?

...anything that is genuinely limited will always be considered an investment if there is more demand than supply - so why not kill the mixed messages here and just print enough of these to last until doomsday like regular bluray films?

:movie:

because steelbooks are more expensive to produce and because scanavo is the only one distributing them.. zavvi cant order 500000 in advance, because you know they have to pay scanavo and storage costs arent exactly cheap either

zavvi cant afford sitting on thousands of copies, which they already paid for

if zavvi could simply turn on their machines and print some copies at will, steelbooks wouldnt be limited at all (they would be a lot cheaper as well)

^^ Well a simple solution to that would be to make a new order every few quarters/once a year. Like:

order 4k from scanavo - on sale - sells out - order another 4k - on sale - sells out -order another 4k
x infinity

and surely zavvi can afford more than the absolute minimum of 4k-10k in an order from scanavo?

500,000 is a very large number, so how about something more manageable, but still significant, like say 20-40,000?

well once they've stated its limited to a certain amount they cant just order new copies..

furthermore there are enough steelbooks which didnt sell out despite being limited to 4000.. it would take too much time to investigate which steel would sell how many times.. instead they just release as many stelbooks as possible and profit on the sheer quantity.. and in case some obvious dependencies are identified like with aladdin and disney steelbooks they keep on increasing the print run... future disney steels probably wont be limited at all and will be handled by your method of re-ordering once sold out..
a definite obstacle here is that the minimum order quantity is 4k and once sales figures are decreasing it might not make sense to re-order

remember that i am speaking as if "steelbooks are/should not (be) investments" is considered true, like a lot of ppl say here.

However they dont seem to get that whenever a steelbook is promoted as "Limited" it makes the above thinking obviously untrue.

:movie:

Like i said above, anything which has more demand than supply - Limited - is automatically a viable investment option, like Oil, Coca, Gold, Silver ect.

The only real problem i can see is that steelbooks are artificially limited, and can actually be re-printed or re-released in the thousands at any time.

.....a very risky investment, but still a investment i think :movie:

did you really compared steelbooks to gold, oil and so on as an investment option? wow, nuff said. just a hint, not everything that is limited or have a demand for the moment is automatically worth an investment. don't won't to go to deep in this discussion because we will going way to far offtopic but you should refresh your business studies buddy.

^^ Seems fair.

:movie:

we can now go back to talking about asking zavvi to print 400,000 copies of their exclusives instead of the usual 4k.

Your guessing, no one knows the print run, and why cant it be based on cancellations and people who have ordered more than 5? So obviously when they balance the system they release the leftovers from whatever the print run is.

I decided to cancelled my order including the little mermaid. The main reason is this is the month where EPIC gonna release:(
