i dont think they lied about the stock level
lot of people ordered multiples and canceled them when the few regular cancelations came back in stock.. i guess scalpers reserved (and then canceled) like at least 30-40% of the stock and now no ones touching the item because everyone suspects some sort of conspiracys going on which is complete and utter nonsense imho
its rly not that hard to understand and way more plausible then zavvi plotting behind our backs
Thing is that surely must have happened with Aladdin as well, people will always cancel items last minute after a bit of a change of heart (or not enough finances). But in that case those items never actually made it back onto Zavvi's own site and, instead turned up £6 more expensive on their ebay store. In fact Aladdin never even turned up as Out of Stock on their site after it sold out whereas a bunch of other stuff (that has since mysteriously come BACK into stock, like Commando and Dick Tracy) still showed up on the steelbook page as Out of Stock.
I therefore very much doubt that this print run is being extended due to vast cancellations etc, as precedent would tell you that they simply don't put cancellations back on their site. Instead we seem to get a weird scenario where out of stock items suddenly reappear months later or we are left to fork out extra via their ebay store. It's a weird situation.
Regardless, it's probably just the case that not as many people have ordered these items for a number of reasons; they are smack in the middle of a MASSIVE pile of other releases, they are WAY more expensive than any other single disc release thus far and the print run seems to be far larger than the other Disney releases too.
Whether people like it or not the limited print runs sell better precisely because a lot of people on this site and elsewhere like to buy multiple copies (whether to sell on, to keep one open and one sealed, to guard against damage etc). I wouldn't say those people were all scalpers which seems to be some peoples opinion. Sure they may well see the spiralling prices and then decide to sell a copy at some point, but that's their call.
But when the run seems to last forever and not be especially rare/limited, as in this case then people are not going to pay over the odds for multiple copies as they may not feel as strongly about the outlay versus the quality of the film. Simple as.
