Take it these must be well over 15k. Can't believe these 2 Disney's ain't sold out yet.

Maybe it's much less (Zavvi did say they were 10k, it would make sense) and the price is putting people off? I find it pretty hilarious when people throw around ridiculous figures purely based on speculation.

If we went back a few years ago £23 per steel be no problem, that is what we were paying for FS steels when they were the King of steelbooks. That doesnt even include the expensive shipping as well. Not many of us would had moaned that much with the price.

The problem now is there are so many steels released every month, £23 seems a lot when back in the old days £25 per steel was normal + shipping. There were much less steels to choose from.

I guess now the only way to survive in this hobby is to really get the steels in movies you want. Try and buy every release you'll break your bank and end up quitting from the heat you overwhelmed yourself with in the first place.

If Zavvi wants to sell steelbooks at 28,75€, they should think to limit the print to 1k-2k units, but I think it is more profitable 4k-5k limited prints at 18-20€, wich guarantee them to be followed by a huge group of always hungry of steel collectors

profitable for who ? ><

4k-5k print run @ 18€ means scalper will get 80% of the stock and rip those off who missed out..

i rather have zavvi get the money who actually work hard to get us those steelbooks than some cheap ... stealing from their fellow collectors

HMV, Zavvi, FutureShop, BestBuy... sell a huge amount of limited steelbooks at reasonables prices (which is not 29€). For any collector, it has more value a limited 5000 print steelbook than a limited 15000 print. That value can justify to expend so much money in it (limited things, are obviously more expensive).

But what I cannot admit is to pay more money than I've paid in the past for any real true limited steelbook (p.e. Taken, Drive, Captain America, The Raid, Roger Rabbit... even Firefly, wich is a whole 3 BDs 4k limited print series was cheaper than this The Book of the Jungle or The Little Mermaid) for a 15000 print steelbook.

Small prints = abusive prices = OK
Huge prints = abusive prices = not OK

I am OK with long prints (so more fellows can buy and enjoy steelbooks), but this is the first time I see such a price for both not very limited steelbooks, which is the scale to set higher or lower prices

The problems with Zavvi are listed below:

1. Why send out emails saying they are unable to source the item but List them in eBay for a higher price?

2. The cheap shipping cost to overseas is definitely adding up to the burden of UK buyers who were paying 9.99 or 10.99 to Play.com but are now forced to pay 4 quid more.

I think this is unfair. Besides that I am fine with Zavvi.

^^ well the answer to your 1st point is of course typical corporate greed. zavvi basically want to scalp their own releases LOL :hilarious:

...they see regular guys scraping some extra pennies together on the 'bay and they figure they should muscle in on that scene too, so they can post a 00.2% increase during their next annual shareholders meeting :movie:

3. Don't send e-mails lying about stock levels of certain steelbooks, claiming they are almost sold out...only to have them then available to pre-order for another month after the fact.

i dont think they lied about the stock level

lot of people ordered multiples and canceled them when the few regular cancelations came back in stock.. i guess scalpers reserved (and then canceled) like at least 30-40% of the stock and now no ones touching the item because everyone suspects some sort of conspiracys going on which is complete and utter nonsense imho

its rly not that hard to understand and way more plausible then zavvi plotting behind our backs

I agree. A lot of collectors ordered multiples hoping to make a quick buck. When a print run of 10k was suggested, many cancelled those spares. It is not Zavvi's greed but collectors' greed that has caused this situation.

All I know is that something 'fishy' is going on with these 2 Disney releases. I don't think all these copies up for sale now are cancellations, it's too many and has been up far too long.

I'm only guessing here of course. Just seems odd how there is still no info on print run and why we got the email stating they were almost sold out and to hurry and order quick, and then weeks later it's still available. IMO it was a tactic to get more orders. I know amazon do it all the time where they only put up so many at a time so people think it's close to selling out but then later more get added. It's a clever tactic, I'll give them that. :D ;)

Thing is that surely must have happened with Aladdin as well, people will always cancel items last minute after a bit of a change of heart (or not enough finances). But in that case those items never actually made it back onto Zavvi's own site and, instead turned up £6 more expensive on their ebay store. In fact Aladdin never even turned up as Out of Stock on their site after it sold out whereas a bunch of other stuff (that has since mysteriously come BACK into stock, like Commando and Dick Tracy) still showed up on the steelbook page as Out of Stock.

I therefore very much doubt that this print run is being extended due to vast cancellations etc, as precedent would tell you that they simply don't put cancellations back on their site. Instead we seem to get a weird scenario where out of stock items suddenly reappear months later or we are left to fork out extra via their ebay store. It's a weird situation.

Regardless, it's probably just the case that not as many people have ordered these items for a number of reasons; they are smack in the middle of a MASSIVE pile of other releases, they are WAY more expensive than any other single disc release thus far and the print run seems to be far larger than the other Disney releases too.

Whether people like it or not the limited print runs sell better precisely because a lot of people on this site and elsewhere like to buy multiple copies (whether to sell on, to keep one open and one sealed, to guard against damage etc). I wouldn't say those people were all scalpers which seems to be some peoples opinion. Sure they may well see the spiralling prices and then decide to sell a copy at some point, but that's their call.

But when the run seems to last forever and not be especially rare/limited, as in this case then people are not going to pay over the odds for multiple copies as they may not feel as strongly about the outlay versus the quality of the film. Simple as.

The target audience for these films don't shop on Zavvi and its not near Christmas yet. That's why it has yet to sell out properly.
