Given the worldwide success of steelbooks, I can't understand why Zavvi doesn't manufacture 20 000 units for each title. They would be sure to sell them... Unless Disney wants to make sure it remains a UK exclusive, and maybe later offer the opportunity of an exclusive steelbook to other retailers in other countries.

Just did a search on amazon for little mermaid and found out that the picture on the steelbook is just the same as the old DVD boxset only the picture has been mirrored.

Yep. True, but some of us here followed this from the beginning when The Little Mermaid steelbook was just a baby thought. The image Zavvi went with is the image almost everybody begged them to put on the front.

Remember the good old days when Aladdin had a 4 K run and got bumped to 5. Now we have 10 K sold out and prob 5 more printing as we speak ;)

Because it still costs them real money to order that amount of inventory and retailers aren't in the business of keeping inventory.

...or at least they won't be in that business for very long.

How many collectors do you know that make money off of their collection?

Plus Disney don't want to flood the market, they like to control the amount of product available, so thousands of Steelbooks sitting in a warehouse wouldn't be good business for them. Their ideal would be to produce the maximum amount of Steelbooks that would still sell out, therefore preserving the value of the Disney brand.

Looks like this has dropped on bestselling at Zavvi, or maybe its a bug!!

I bet everyone that wants one has ordered , Must have sold atleast 15 000 copies if we compare to Aladdin..

I do think that given the length of time these 2 are taking to sell out, the print run may be something like 15k. I'm not necessarily complaining. Just an observation as they should've sold out within a few days.

Certainly, and I agree in that it's not necessarily a bad thing. There's a certain calibre of Disney Classics that are always going to be hugely in demand, and Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and The Jungle Book fit into that group. Even with a high print run they all have a very broad appeal, especially with Zavvi shipping worldwide, and I think it's great that more people will have a chance to grab a copy.

They'll still all go, they're still limited, and in spite of the print run these are going to remain special and desirable when they're gone. If you've secured one, you'll find you've got something to treasure!
