For that kind of money, Warner better forge a ring that works :p

$800 USD + shipping = > $1000 CAD...:stop:...No way i'm paying that price when it doesn't include the 3D or the theatrical editions on disc nor does it include the original LOTR movie. And this is supposed to be the 'ultimate collector's set'? :censored:

Love that edition! I actually bought it for 100 USD on sale. They will not sell out this edition, which means it will go on sale eventually. So here's to hoping ~$200 somewhere down the line.

And @C.C. 95, I can bet you that $800 that this will not be the final edition. First they will probably do a so called 'UE' for both trilogies seperately. And if they dont include 3D in that, then there will be another 'UE' for that. Later, they will release a '4K UE' which wont be a real 4K edition because some genius decided to scan it at lower res. And then some years later, if we're lucky and there is demand, we'll get a true 4K UE.
...damn...i think i just layed out WB's plan for the next 20 years
I'm also concerned about Warner letting PJ do his promised new documentary that is supposed to happen...
But you are right. You can't call this the ULTIMATE edition when you are actually SUBTRACTING things I got with earlier releases from last year!! All the book editions from Japan have all cuts and all the Hobbits have 2D and 3D.

Wouldn't at all be surprised is they released another set in the future containing all of those!

Well, I don't see how these can sell. They are priced for the Hardcore fan...But the hardcore fan will want nothing to do with incomplete editions. Maybe it will sell to fans with disposable income with no knowledge of international releases that have already been available and better. As it sits: it is an $800 spice rack with nice spines.

I agree at this price they wont sell. Theyll need to drop it drastically.

You know what? For $800, you should get the Extended AND Theatrical cuts with that set. You should also get the 3D discs for The Hobbit. This is mind-boggling.

for 800$ they should include an airticket to NEW Zealand:LOL:

as for the matter of how well this set can sell, there are people that are able and willing to pay for a set no matter the cost, even if the set its incomplete....

This is LESS than what has been offered previously! The Amazon Japan Book style Blu rays had The extended cuts and 2D and 3D on The Hobbits, plus ALL the Appendices! For WAY less! And they copied the brilliant style of the earlier DVD set!
(All I need is the wooden spice rack, and I'm way ahead of this new set!)

EDIT- in retrospect, the Japan discs are EE only like the original DVD book set.

@DarkChild
On Amazon.jp-
The Hobbits are still available, and LOTR EXCEPT Fellowship. You may have to find that elsewhere.
I THINK Australia did these too...
You might ask @elle82 about that.
Also- I have to check to see if they are both editions or just EE.
I think they are just EE like the original DVD book sets. (Which are the REAL versions of LOTR anyway. The theatrical was PJs compromise).

My OCD has me like, "Warner, why'd you leave the New Line Cinema logo off of RotK's spine?!?!" :OMG:

another quite annoying thing is that a really limited and crazy expensive should also be really limited (from 1000 to 3000 copies) and numbered..this is not....
Just as and example (and take from this what you will), I just bought 30 Days of Night Steelbook on Zavvi on sale for £7.00 and it's listing STILL says
Exclusive Limited Edition Steelbook (Ultra Limited Print Run)
So, I never really know when to believe something is limited anyway.
I mean, when you see "limited print run", it certainly gets your checkbook out doesn't it?!
And if very few people buy it, it could be around for long enough to drop drastically in price.
As many others have said- at another price point, I might be considering this (as a lot of us are quasi-complesionists) - but $800 is not even in the ballpark of consideration.
