I've seen John Rambo sell for over $1,000 3+ times in the last 3 years. Saw IM FS sell for 1,000+ 2x

And I dont keep up much with ebay listings and prices so it coulve happen more than that. But just speaking on what i seen.

Thats right my man. Keep it real. For thread which stresses that its about "value" (in bold), it seems rather strange to get the top spot wrong. I'm not trying to hype this title, I don't have Rambo sealed. Just telling it exactly the way it is. Doesn't seem like the message is greatly appreciated lol.

Its hard to get the top 5 right because pricing fluctuates.

For instance IM FS has fell a bit in value due to the Play release .. but that isnt to say it wont one day get back to where it was at ... just takes time.

Le Grand Bleu and Gladiator TW like damn near hardly ever appear on ebay ... I believe if they did they would easily go for more then what T2 fetches and what IM FS today fetches. So really their perceived value is just because of opinion. Granted good opinion tho.

Wreck, you are right, if there is indeed such a thing as a sealed LGB, both this and Gladiator TW will fetch more, much more, than T2 V2 and IM FS.

But for now, chiefly because of a lack of completed transactions for both LGB and Gladiator TW, if I use empirical evidence (i.e. actual transactions on both ebay as well as here on HDN which I am aware of in the past year), John Rambo tattoo should be #1.

Sunny, I have only minor tweaks to your lists, which I dont believe are earth-shattering, so I will leave it for another day for now.

It does fluctuate quite a bit, thats true. The same seller that sold the sealed Rambo also had T2 V2 and Grande Bleu for bids. Rambo went $1,700, T2 V2 went for $1,200, and GB went for bit over $900. I specifically remember this auction because that was the first time I seen these 3 up for bid. Usually when they come up on ebay, people have an astronomical BIN price on them. In the end, It doesn't really matter to me. I just posted my observation, I wasn't expecting a great debate lol. Trouble seems to follow me :hilarious:

In regards to Gladiator TW fetching more, maybe, maybe not. Just because 1 person highly prizes an item, don't mean others will. I don't know much about this title, but from what I've seen of it, it doesn't interested me in the least. Just another slip as far as I'm concerned. How rare or not rare it is does not matter to me. Who knows, maybe it would bid for the highest price ever. But until that day comes, its all just speculation and hearsay.

Desirabillity is often left out in these matter. Ones gotta ask, who, besides oneself (and maybe your closest buddies) desire an item? If theres a comic book "Cockroach man", with only 4 copies of the #1 issue, would it be more valuable than Superman #1? Which has 1000's of copies? How many Cockroach man fans are there? compared to Superman? Sometimes desirabillity outranks low numbers.

stevo,

this thread works because I am impartial. I know you dislike slip covers, but I can tell you there are many collectors out there who are 'slip lovers'. If my opinion was based on 'my desire' only, the rank would not be 'impartial'. You 'personal' dislike slip covers and use that to influence your judgement.

Now I will make this clear to you again. LGB that you mentioned was sold was NOT SEALED. If you read the OP it clearly states this is FOR SEALED steels.

If an unsealed one goes for that much, a sealed will no doubt be doubled or possible even tripled.

Right now we will never know 100% if LGB ever came factory sealed or not. It's a mystery and we will probably never going to find out.

Your opinion on Gladiator TW is noted and I have placed this in 5th place behind 2.0 and IM for now. I have already explained my reasons why it's on there.

This thread won't be appealing if I base everything solely on 'bids' is there? That would be very 'tunnel vision' thought.

There are a lot of steels on the list which doesn't appeal to me. But I know they appeal to many others.

Interest and wants is a major influence that determines the price of a steel as well.

I know a lot of people that would want a Gladiator Taiwan and if a SEALED ever popped on ebay, oh boy, I know so many collectors would start the bidding, even me :)

I agree with AA. I personally put this at Number 1 or Number 2. But you are never going to see the 'bids' that you so hope to see because you are not going to even find a sealed one, let alone an open one.

It appears all the steels you have ever contested are the steels you do now own. I remember to this very day who you stated T2 2.0 was not worth much and I clearly stated it was. You did not listen to me but you decided to buy one now?

This is my impartial experienced thoughts, use the list as a guide. It is impossible to have everything accurate on the list.

I know you are a 'grail hunter' and if you are, how about listen to what members have to say as opposed to challenging them all the time?

Speaking only for myself, I would be far more interested in a sealed Taiwan Gladiator than a FS IM or a T2 V2 or a JR. The others you see regularly (albeit at high prices), but a sealed Gladiator up for sale might be a one-time event. A LOT of collectors wouldn't want to miss out.

I agree. There is only one person I know that has a SEALED Gladiator TW. The owner is a friend to a member here and the owner would not trade his sealed Gladiator TW for anything. The owner was already offered a sealed IM but straight flat no :p

gonna have to say it Boys..

that after I saw that TDK-fanc sale, I was starting to feel sick :ohno:

as that is a lot of bloody money for a stupid steel book !!

most guys dont have that kinda cash flow in savings , nvm at hand , so , even if Gladiator came up, I dont think majority of guys could even afford it ??

I dont care , how much $$ you think you are worth

I know that because of the absolute limited availability of it, the price would be some where close to 5K :scat:

and that is being realistic , If TDK- fanc is any thing to gauge Gladiator TW by ??

P.S. ~ and as far as T2-V2 goes : ~ any one silly enough to pay $600 can get a copy of that , so , it aint even Rare , so that really should be put to Bed by now !!

Mr TC, I missed this sale, TDK FNAC, was it on ebay recently on auction or BIN? Do you have the link?

Dude . I don't know how, but it always seems like I'm somehow misunderstood in one way or the other. First of all, in regards to this list, I view it as your list. Nothing more, nothing less. The only list that I go by, are what is confirmed by ebay auctions. Because in the end, when I do eventually sell my items, it will be those exact people that will bid on them. I care about their opinion, not yours or anyone elses. By what you wrote, you seem to think that I have some kind of an agenda, like putting the steels that I own high on the top 10. I don't own GB, I don't own Gladiator. Don't personally care for those titles. I really don't care where you put the titles I do own either. Whether they're 1, 41 or 1001, in no way reflect on what they will bid for if I put them on ebay. Those people don't know about your list. They don't care about your list. The only title I mentioned was John Rambo, which I don't own sealed.

Maybe some of you have some kind of personal agendas. Putting titles in slots based on wishful thinking, rather than anything concrete. Do yourself a favor, don't bold anything anymore. It's making you look rather bad. When you state that this thread is based on VALUE, thats a very concrete term, with a definite number attached to it. Well definite values was established. I won't repeat what those items sold for, because I already posted those in the above post. Is that the order in which they appear on this list of yours? Instead of something that is concrete like "VALUE", all I get from you are a bunch of speculations. Speculations like GB may, or may not come factory sealed. Speculations like where you THINK Gladiator will place IF it were up to bid. Is that your version of concrete? You see what I'm saying?

Don't take your list too seriously, its not the bible or koran lol. Each individual will decide on what they'll pay for an item. I highly doubt they're gonna consult this list of yours first.

Hey Sunnyx,

I believe this is a more accurate list. I'm not trying to offend anyone.

Ned sold his steelcase collection all which are perfect and this is how they ranked in sales. I believe this is a more accurate presentation (price wise).

1. Terminator 2
2. Dark Knight $513.55
3. Gladiator $400
4. Inglourious Basterds $364.81
5. Smallville $318.24
6. Harry Potter 6 - The Half Blood Prince $189.39
7. Smokin Aces 1 & 2 $167.49
8. Fast Furious 1-4 $114.54

Some of these titles have surfaced on eBay once. EEK!
Terminator should be number one, I believe Ned stated it was quite hard to get and expensive. Ned even called it "The Grail." He hasn't even listed it on eBay, an expensive gem indeed. I've seen PERFECT copies of Gladiator sell for $400 easy in the past. Smallville should be added as it's rare and expensive.

I didn't list Saving Private Ryan & The Sarah Connor Chronicles b/c I'm not 100% sure where to place them. If I did list them I believe the list would change to this:

1. Terminator 2
2. Dark Knight $513.55
3. Saving Private Ryan
4. Gladiator $400
5. Inglourious Basterds $364.81
6. Smallville $318.24
7. S.C. Chronicles
8. Harry Potter 6 - The Half Blood Prince $189.39
9. Smokin Aces 1 & 2 $167.49
10. Fast Furious 1-4 $114.54

This is NOT my top 10 list rather how these titles rank price wise.

Hi,

FM (chanfm) asked me to write something about the steelcases, their value and their rarity.

First, it is very difficult to fix a value of the steelcases and things in general that you can find once in a half year. Some of the Steelcases I hadn’t seen before at ebay or somewhere else.

Honestly I was surprised, even shocked about the prices. The prices have dropped compared to the last year.

For example, I have sold unsealed copies of TDK and Inglourious Basterds last year for the same price the sealed copies were sold the last month.

I agree with Steelknight47 that SPR should rank above Gladiator in the list. While I haven't seen enough auctions to gauge comparitive value, it's rarity would almost certainly mean that it would sell for more. I believe Nils sold his SPR and T2 off ebay recently, so only he knows what they went for, but I'm sure they're ranked correctly above.

Rob, you’re right. I have sold T2, Ryan and Gladiator for 1200$ (Ryan and T2 450$, Gladiator 300$) and Sarah Connor Chronicles for 120$.

Back to question of the ranking. It is difficult because you can’t compare the value with the rarity. I have called T2 my “Holy Grail” because it was almost impossible to find it in this perfect condition. The same with Smallville. I searched one year for both. But I think compared to the value and “hype”, TDK is the King of the Steelcases and the real “Holy Grail”. But that’s also a question of taste. Some people think Iron Man is the Holy Grail of the Steelbooks and other people think it must be Rambo.

So, I will create two lists:

The value list:

1. TDK
2. T2
3. Ryan
4. IB
5. Smallville
6. Gladiator
7. HP
8. Smokin Aces
9. SCC
10. Fast 1-4

The rarity list:

1. T2
2. Samllville
3. Ryan
4. TDK
5. IB
6. HP
7. Gladiator
8. Smokin Aces
9. Fast 1-4
10. SCC

Please notice: This is just my personal opinion and my personal experience after 1 ½ years of collecting all the 22 Steelcases.

@sunnyx: Great job! I have add some pics of my former Steelcases you can use for your list.

Best regards

Nils

Great steelcase lists everyone. I think this is a great way to discuss rarity/value lists. We should do this with all the lists and anyone who wanted to post a list could. This seems like it would produce the most accurate lists that everyone is happy with.

It seems like we agree that the steelcase grails which would be a step above the rest are:

- TDK
- T2

Then there is the second level that is worth a decent amount less than the two above:

- IB
- HP
- SPR
- Gladiator
- Smallville (USA steelcase)

Finally, the third level which is worth a decent amount less than the second level:

- Smokin Aces
- FF 1-4
- SCC (USA steelcase)

Yes, great to have an expert opinion from Nils. I'm also really surprised at how much the value has dropped on these steel cases, and also astonished that Ryan sold for the same amount as T2 (I would have expected T2 to go for much more).

Anyway, I think it could be a very long time before any of these surface on ebay again in such pristine condition. The new owners of TDK and T2 got a great deal IMO.

The reason trouble seems to follow you is simple imo. You're opinionated and that is something that can easily offend or tick people off. Those might be a tad strong words but I'm no master linguistic so please bear that in mind when reading this.

I don't always agree with you however I don't always disagree with you either.

What I always do tho is find your posts interesting and worth reading.

You're probably a bit hung up on ebay.com auctions (apparantly very important that it's not the uk one) and sunnyx could probably be accused of being a little hung up on LGB and Gladiator TW and wether or not LGB ever came sealed or not.
In the end we all have our opinions and we're allowed to share them with each other here on HDN as long as we're being civil and respectful towards each other.

I'd like to close with a statement.

Opinions are like assholes, everyone's got one.
And that makes us all assholes.

Whoa, a nicely worded constructive critism, I can live with that. Well thanks for stating you find my posts interesting and worth reading. I try to add a bit of flavor here and there, add a bit of spice and keep things fresh. Lets address some of the points you brought up.

1) I'm opinionated - Agreed. I tend to be that, but aren't everybody opinionated? If I say "I don't like slips" Should people get upset at me for that? If so, why?

2) I'm hung up on ebay auctions - Agreed. Let me ask you, what other shopping site, or mall or any retail outlet that you can go to with a larger amount of potential customers? If you were to take the pulse of what items sells for, can you give me a better option than ebay? I'm looking at it from a shear number of people on that site, it is truly worldwide. If you know of a site that can even begin to rival ebay, I'd like to hear about it. Nothing against the U.K version, except its the U.K, and not the world. Prices get skewed there. For instance, you can probably get Play.com releases alot cheaper at the U.K site, but an FS Disney title will command a high premium because it has to be imported. There is a method to my madness.

3) opinions are like A-holes - Agreed. When you're paying hundreds (or even thousands) of dollars for some steels, you had best leave your personal feelings and biases behind. I did that with T2 V2, so my money is where my mouth is.

I am direct and (blatantly?) truthful. I certainly don't turn the other cheek if provoked. I'm thinking those are the qualities that probably upset most people. But I can tell you that I never initiate any kind of trouble. I don't make negative comments on anyone's collection when pics are posted. You recall that scene in "Kingdom of Heaven", when the main characters gets knighted. One of the commands he had to follow was "speak the truth, even if it leads to your death". I can subscribe to that. Because if you speak the truth, those who matter won't mind, and those who mind don't matter.
