I really don't understand everyone's sudden change in attitude - everyone was giddy over the unusual cover art but all of a sudden, as the perection is that its gone from a cream to a silver background, it's become 'trash?:wtf:

I believe it should look like some of the promo art- WHITE, not "hey, let's drop the white finish and save some $$$" silver finish.
Silver has nothing to do with the mock up image on page one or any of the promotional art.
We can only assume they have gone with barebones silver to save money- shame they have not priced the item accordingly like the other cheapo steelbooks zavvi have done in the past...14.99 max.
Rip off.

In the picture you have posted, you can clearly see that it is grey/silver and not white. Looking at the mockup again it does look silver. I don't think the finished product is that far from what Zavvi were advertising.

Honestly looking at the mockup now, it does have a greyish tone to it and it can be hard to translate a brushed metal effect well in mockups. I dont think its Zavvi misleading us but more so us(including myself) making an assumption that this will be cream instead of white. When I saw the in hand pic, I was disappointed as well but Im not going to ask for Zavvi's/the studios head or act like they did something wrong. Unfortunate that it hit us by surprise but this has happened times before with white/grey mockups. No need to blame anyone for it. Plus we havent seen it in its full glory yet, so theres still some hope.

Yeah some idiots will, but in this case they'd be buying a really good film, and getting a DVD copy too. I reckon this will look fine, it's not like we're choosing between a white and a silver new car is it? As most sane people have said, let's wait 'til someone receives one tomorrow before we start flipping tables and chairs over screaming "WHY ISN'T IT WHITE? NO EMBOSSING? ARRRGH!"

The issue here is the steelbook does not resemble the image on page 1- which I think it's fair to say is what many people base their decision to buy the steelbook on in the first place?, you know, an accurate picture of what they think they will be getting...
if you're only concerned with owning the bluray disc save a fiver and get the standard amaray at Sainsbury's.

I'm not trying to say "I told you so", but I did post on page 12 that the background looks identical to 'Cabin in the Woods'.

I suspect that the mock up is based on proofs of the artwork, which are printed on normal photo paper, hence areas with no printing appear white but will be bare metal on the finished steelbook.

I imagine we will get many pages of the exact same argument when the 'Monsters University' steelbook lands

Same thing happened on Wreck-it Ralph with the background behind the wall.

Hey Sly-I think one of the challenges is not everyone can or does follow every post in every thread. So must make their purchasing decisions based on the OP. Sometimes advanced pics of the 'actual' Steel are simply not made available in time and disappointment can ensue. Just curious guys, is the spine red? I've not had a chance to see all pics myself.

Friendly reminder, lets leave the name calling and personal insults out of this thread. Everyone has a different perspective on these things but lets not resort to mockery because someone thought it would look 'this way, or 'that way'. Based on that mockup, it does kind of look like there was some paint or finish on the whole front, not just silver, but I am not sure the silver we're seeing in the 'actual' pics can even be properly represented in a print mockup. I don't know. I was really looking forward to it based on the red/gray kind of 'weathered' mockup but I like to see things in hand first before I make any judgment, so I personally have to wait.

Sorry, I will be clearer - a great film, and overall better artwork than the US or France have got (with both steelbook and amaray). So overall a steelbook that's worth it. Plus I only paid £15.69 (10% off) so would be saving £2.70, but an extra DVD copy for laptop/friends Xbox's, plus some pretty decent artwork (one of the best this year) = a win overall. Even if it hasn't got a white base colour. I'm looking forward to it.

I think it's pretty clear from the few pics we've seen of it that there is definitely no embossing???

Highly doubtful that the back cover has any.

Yes probably no embossing on it- the other few StudioCanal steelbooks I have, 'Rampart' and 'End Of Watch', don't have embossing either.
Hopefully some detailed pics will emerge today

ok, the finish on this release may possibly disappointment a large amount of collectors. i have to admit, i was hoping for a paint finish with some embossing / debossing, but made no assumptions regarding the final finish. brushed metal finishes can, sometimes, work pretty well !! i hope this doesn't end up being the damp squib people are expecting. there will always be some steelbooks which generate higher expectations than others, this being a good example, so i'm still looking forward to having this in hand. surely, any steelbook is preferable to an amaray, isn't it?

Also preferred art with blank background, but the brushed steel effect may surprise, even if it is different from the picture on the website.
The same thing happened with SB Hansel & Gretel in Taiwan JSDVD and when received was not so bad.
