I don't see a difference here and if there is, it's mighty small and pretty much irrelevant. That black border up top just has to go, same with all the text. I want to see that disappear when taking off the j-card to leave a clean front with only the title on it, otherwise it's a no sale. I've got the superior US release anyway so would only be buying for art alone, which at the moment is just not good enough.

EDIT: I also think the title should be in the centre and debossed only. That would make a nice steelbook. The title up top is obscuring Bale a little at the moment.

The difference is that the huge black space (like with The Goonies) is gone as people were requesting since the artwork was first revealed.

I do like embossing, but it seems to be on every new release now. Also, hoping the black banner is on the J card. Either way, very good film.

It isn't, the artwork has been shifted up (you can see there is more artwork at the bottom on the new version) and the title has been moved to the top from the middle.

After:

Hopefully we get a third version with a nice and clean artwork without that black thing. :( I just wrote an email and send them the pictures I made and posted earlier. Hopefully they take our feedback.

The black space is still there though, they've just put the text over it. The image may have been moved up but now we lose more of Bale because of the black bar/gradient (even though we get more of Jackman).

was always on the fence with this one, loved the movie but the steel had it's issues. Looks like those issues are resolved, and glossy and embossing definitely helps convince me too haha

better artwork now,

but the only thing i absolutely DON'T LIKE is "from the director of batman begins"... what does this film have to do with batman except of the director? and why do they focus here on the first title of that trilogy when there's been much more popular films by c.nolan?
i just dont get it. :dunno:

personally i think it's okay to write this on a cheap amaray cover you can throw away after 2 years anyway because of re-release after re-release...
but a steelbook cover should be more timeless, and therefore any other movie titles except the one of the movie itself should not be on the cover!

This is all true, there are people who aren't big collectors like we are though who might never have heard of The Prestige or even Christopher Nolan. If they see its from the director of Batman they might be more tempted to pick it up.

i agree on this, but then, if some people really need to put this line on it because of marketing reasons, there is still the option to write it on the slipcover and not print it on the steelbook.

It's acceptable on an amaray, which you would likely see on a shelf in store and might pick it up based on the name, but on a steelbook this kind of text has no place. Steelbook collectors know what they're buying, plus you don't exactly see them in supermarkets so I doubt people impulse buy a steelbook based on who directed it.

Plus, isn't that what the j-cards are for?

I'm not disagreeing, I too think it should be on a slipcover. I'm saying not everybody who buys Steelbooks is a collector, there will be people out there who buy it just because they like the artwork even if its just for sale on a website. A lot of people buy there movies online these days, I'm sure non Steelbook collectors might pick it up because they like the artwork.

a-freakin-men to that.

The ratio of a blu-ray cover perhaps means that the black band is the only way to retain the original poster art's width? Having said that, why not just put the title up there? Moving the title from the centre now makes the top really busy.
