:emb:mg: I can't wait. One of my favourite movies as a kid and remember seeing this at UCI High Wycombe. Think it's brilliant.

The steelbook looks amazing and will go nicely with my Australian Daybill poster. Thank you Zavvi!!!

I must be in the small minority....this film imho ws aweful....nostalgia perhaps but all those who are blind buying this...really??!! Do check the trailer out....that sums it up to me and 6.1 on imdb speaks for itself. The steelbook art looks dull to me...surely in order for a film to warrant a purchase the movie has to be good or have cult status if not overwhelming popularity. Dont understand ppl who blind buy mediocrity.

An IMDB rating speaks for a load of movie snobs who highly rate films in languages they can't understand and crap on American films unless it's Avengers related or directed by Christopher Nolan.

I don't see why a film has to be 'good or have cult status' (though i'm not saying that this film doesn't meet either of those criteria, I haven't seen it) to justify a Steelbook release. I think response to this thread suggests that more than enough people enjoyed it to justify a Steelbook release. Not every film aims to be a masterpiece, sometimes it's great just to watch a film that doesn't need much attention that is just a fun way to waste a couple of hours. Movies are surely about enjoyment above all.

really nice slick looking steel

nver seen this tho - hows the movie? - like Buck Rogers & Flash Gorden or something right? does it stands up well today or is pure retro pure nostalgia?

- thanks

I would describe it as a cross between Indiana Jones and Dick Tracy :)

No i suppose it doesn't stand up well by todays standards, especially the effects but its just one of the nostalgic movies i really like with the standard old fashioned ingredients, Hero, Damsell in distress and Bad guy.

I like the front, but the back seems like an afterthought. I would buy it if they continued the art deco style of the front onto the back of the steelbook, but thats not likely!

This movie is from 22 years ago. The general understanding of what is or isn't excellence in a film of today is quite different from a film of the 80's or early 90's. Each era is held to its own standards.

Like many other movies of yesteryear such as Willow, Legend, Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, The Princess Bride, etc etc, there are those who watched The Rocketeer at the time of release that have fond nostalgistic memories of it. All of that gets wrapped up in their thoughts about the movie and their desire to own it. Your definition of mediocrity is different from the next person's. IMDB ratings mean virtually nothing (zippo) to anyone on these steelbook forums.
