I do agree very much on keeping the original titles - I always think of the classic French and Italian films I grew up with in their oiginal titles.

The change of title, or intent is horrifying sometimes - yes, a blind buy of The Railway Man in its German title would come as quite a shock to say the least.

One that always, but always annoys me is Jaws in the french release "Les Dents de la Mer" - The Teeth of the Sea - why not simply "Machoires" - Jaws??
I could never bring myself to buy that edition.

Yes, the German release of "Jaws" was also translated into something completely different, "Der weisse Hai" (The White Shark).

This probably explains why both the French and German Steelbooks are still available for very little outlay, whilst the UK one is long OOP and only available for silly money on the secondary market. I opted instead for the UK Digibook as it was more reasonably priced.

Incidentally, you may have already read it but there was a recent discourse, on the very subject of the translation of a film's title into other languages, in the thread for the German Steelbook release of "The Babadook". There were some interesting insights from @Bunk, as to the reasoning behind the translation of certain titles into French for domestic consumption.

I'd love that. The Third Man is an utter masterpiece of cinema. Thrilling, devious, cryptic and with the greatest character reveal in cinema history.
A stunning film.
