Official word from ES:

We’re certainly planning to continue doing all future seasons of The Walking Dead in steelbook with matching artwork – it looks likely season 4 will be out in September 2014 as it follows the same pattern as Game of Thrones (i.e. the new season hits DVD and Blu-Ray just before the new season starts).

We’ve been told that the steelbooks will feature in the US Walking Dead magazine, so likely to be quite a bit of international interest for these.

The Entertainment Store is pleased to announce our latest exclusive steelbook releases: Seasons 1, 2 and 3 of The Walking Dead, AMC’s Emmy Award winning TV series.

Each season features world exclusive artwork by Mark Simpson AKA Jock, who is responsible for some of best regarded comics and art of this generation, having worked on 2000AD, The Losers and Hellblazer amongst others as well as producing artwork for many major film studios, including the artwork for HDN Steelbook of the Year 2012 winner The Raid.

The Walking Dead: Season 1 (Entertainment Store Exclusive Blu-Ray Steelbook):

- 2 Blu-Rays discs
- Debossed Title Treatment
- G2 Standard Steelbook case
- Limited to 4,000 copies worldwide
- Finish TBC

The Walking Dead: Season 2 (Entertainment Store Exclusive Blu-Ray Steelbook):

- 3 Blu-Rays discs
- Debossed Title Treatment
- G2 Standard Steelbook case
- Limited to 4,000 copies worldwide
- Finish TBC

The Walking Dead: Season 3 (Entertainment Store Exclusive Blu-Ray Steelbook):

- 5 Blu-Rays discs
- Debossed Title Treatment
- G2 Jumbo Steelbook case
- Limited to 4,000 copies worldwide
- Finish TBC

NB: Due to the number of discs needed for all episodes and extras, Season 3 has to be in a Jumbo format case.

All 3 Seasons are sold individually, and will be on sale exclusively through The Entertainment Store on Rakuten Play.com at midday BST on Friday 11th October 2013 when the release date and pricing will be revealed.

In the meantime, our full range of steelbooks is available here: http://www.play.com/stores/EntertainmentStore/Steelbooks

The Entertainment Store has been trading on Marketplaces since 2013 and is proud to retail only authentic and high quality Entertainment goods, delivered to customers direct from the Studio and Publishers.

****** time of year, too many releases and too little money. If I didn't already have the first two series on BD I may have made the push but if January remains quiet and they are still around, then who knows?

Walking dead are known for their great boxsets for seasons 1 and 3, so I am pretty hopeful it won't be ******.

Fishtank for season 3, Zombie head for season 2....What did they do for season 1? the only 'special' edition I can think of was that supposed tin that turned out to be a cardboard box with a rubber mask in it from one of the American stores - bestbuy?? was there a nice edition of season one anywhere else?

I made a mistake I meant season 2 I don't know why I put season 1?

These are really nice Steelbooks, but the fact they are all coming out at the same time makes it too expensive for me. Especially right near Christmas.

Some of the best stuff is gonna be out in December, everything from now on has to be a 2014 release, I don't have anymore cash for this year haha..

Dissapointing, the 2nd release in Germany got the Uncut Version, so it should not be to hard to print a new disc in the UK as well. Anyway since I also have the Uncut US Version this will be bought because of the Steelbook, but it would be so much better if they would include the Uncut Version.

Just got a reply from ES regarding disc contents:

Hi,

Thanks for your query.

They are the same discs as the original UK release.

Let me know if you need more help.

Regards,

Alexandra

Some of those amaray prices are n the high side

Season 1 (2 Discs) - amaray is £12.49 @ WOWHD

Season 2 (3 Discs) - amaray is £14.49 @ WOWHD

Not relevant to this but a good price - Season 1 & 2 is £21.39 @ Base.com

Season 3 (5 Discs) - £30 is right, cheapest is £29.99

I'll repost what I have just written in the ES retailer thread:

Entertainment Store could have been a little more considerate when choosing a release date for their exclusive Walking Dead SteelBook releases! I know it's right before Christmas and the optimum time to push for sales, but these series are already out as boxed sets (at a cheaper price, I will add), so they are technically considered catalogue releases and don't really need to be released at this time!

I'm sure ES would benefit more by releasing these after Xmas when most people have lots of spare gift cash to spend, rather than two weeks before! £85 quid is a lot of cash to dump on three SteelBooks right before Christmas!

I also know these are SteelBooks, but how can they justify £85 when you can buy all three series separately for less than £70, or the season 1-3 set for only £52 on Amazon.co.uk!

Season 1 - £18.98

Season 2 - £19.99
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B005ZCIKWI/?tag=hidefnin-21

Season 3 - £29.99
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008OPXIN4/?tag=hidefnin-21

Seasons 1-3 - £52.00
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00C7M1YTU/?tag=hidefnin-21

ES should either make these releases cheaper in keeping with the existing boxed sets, or reschedule the release dates in order to give consumers a fighting chance!

Phew...I didnt buy the season 2 head because of the region lock, but regret it in a way due to its coolness but I thought Id somehow missed out on another collectable set for season 1 EEK!

cuts to season 1
http://melonfarmers.wordpress.com/2...-cut-uk-release-of-the-walking-dead-season-1/

about 15-20 seconds-don't know if this really makes a difference as they would have been shown cut in the u.k on tv

No they were shown uncut on FX/Fox UK. Ironically the first region B set was based on the German TV cut, which is now the only country to have an uncut version as well.
Talking of the UK, Sky on demand have all three seasons so I can watch them any time for free. More reason to wait for the complete set.

nice one-don't really remember any cuts-was probably watching through my fingers or turning away-small price to pay for a nice set of steelbooks and looks like 2 & 3 are uncut for some strange reason

If ES have confirmed that they will also release season 4 as a steelbook, then I would assume that they will try to release at the same time as the standard set and will price it at a similar point.

I don't think they could justify making seasons 1 to 3 any cheaper without some backlash over a future release price being a lot higher.

I'll repost what FanOfGaming had just written in the ES retailer thread also:

They're a business, there are 2 outcomes with this release date (or any release date really):

- they sell out, rendering release date irrelevant
- they do not sell out, and people can buy them in January with the extra Christmas cash you mentioned

I understand that people get frustrated when release dates are bunched together, but these companies have the goal that you will buy their product over the competitors. They won't avoid the prime Christmas period because we have other things to buy. They want to be one of those things on our lists. And if they aren't, then that stock doesn't disappear, it can be bought later.

The assumption is that the retailer is always being inconsiderate if something is going to cost money. But there are a wide range of collectors on here so some will be able to afford to pay in one go and others will need to plan it out (presuming that the issue is the cost of the steelbooks being to much at once rather than too many being released which you can afford). That isn't really the responsibility of the retailer, they are just putting another few options out there for us to choose from on that date. Personally, I chose the ES TWD steels over others being released around that time.

As FOG says, if it sells out then your argument around too many releases on one date is null & void. If it doesn't sell out then there isn't an issue anyway as you could pick them all up in installments.

And I'll add this. If there is too much happening at that time then perhaps they could be asked for as gifts for Christmas (if you celebrate it of course).

I'm liking some of these recents posts. Everyone paints the retailer out to be a money hungry, inconsiderate monster when all they're trying to do is make a buck and keep the majority of customers happy (I like the before Xmas release date, already got them sorted as a gift, arrive just after my xbox one so ican watch them on that along with playing TWD game season 2). And making this buck is especially important for new retailers such as the entertainment Store. They don't have the comfort to pump out 40 releases a year.
