Why do you collect steelbooks
I'm curious as I cant see what difference it makes if new collectors can purchase a re release even its an exact copy of a previous release affect you

If its that you purchase steelbooks to sell and make a profit and don't like re releases that's your choice but not your right to deny others a re release as its my right as it is others to purchase what they like
If you don't like a release you don't have to purchase it its that simple

There are many aspects to steelbook collecting and all need to be respected whether you agree with them or not. I am critical of recycling artwork more than re releases for many reasons though I dislike both. Then again steelbook collectors often critic a release they will buy anyway  ( Case and point Me ) The main reason I collect steelbooks is because I consider them exclusive. At the heart of any collectible item, exclusivity plays a huge role IMO. When a collectible is re invented without looking different, it eats away at the exclusivity the original collectors enjoyed and harms collecting in general. The point is not to deny new collectors at all but to preserve the hobby we all enjoy.
While it is fact that re releases will take place, majority I believe would prefer that it be different from the original / previous release as it then is a NEW item rather than a rehash of the old.

Not sure which is more unfair to collectors...retailers re-releasing popular films at $60 a pop or having to pay $100's for a past release that a new collector to this hobby missed out on. I'll go with the latter. Can't have to much of a good thing.

Your not getting it. In all collectibles hobbies, there has never been a reprint that was worth more than the original. Reprinting a copy of Action comic #1 on premium, high quality, high gloss paper, with 1000x better artwork , will never come close to the original in value. It doesn't matter that the original was printed on cheap news print, which was just 1 step up from toilet paper. The original will always be worth more. That's how it is. So if you want a Thor, go for the original, not any reprints. So yeah, paying $100 for the original is way better than paying $60 for this beast.

We don't need a million releases of the same movies over and over again. All these Marvel titles have been done to death. So in short, no more Iron Man, Captain America, Thor. A lot more, Dude, Where's my Car?, Hercules Goes Bananas, and FREEJACK.

The problem is that is exactly what a lot of collectors want. A lot of collectors would rather see endless reprints of Disney and Marvel films with the odd over-hyped film for variety rather than a wide selection of titles that offers something for everyone.

I joined this forum because it's a haven for collectors and I feel I can freely discuss my buying habits as a fellow collector without someone questioning why. Try talking about steelbooks or special packaging at places like Home Theater Forum or even horrordigital - they practically laugh you off. I hated people asking why I have to own 3 copies of Drive. Frankly, I'm surprised to see those types of comments on here (people questioning why they need so and so title).
