I opened this and CA with the intention of getting rid of both but my 'marvelitis' has got the better of me and I actually like the front of both steels. I've not unwrapped this yet but I really don't like the back from looking at the pictures.

I also take notice of how much the artwork matches until I saw them side by side this morning. I don't want a re-release of the other steels but it could be interesting if all the artwork matches.

The back is terrible what a shame, HMV still rule but the front is not bad almost Zavvi but still fall short of the mark, fingers cross they will do a better job with the The Dark World.

Have you got the original? It's one of the finest steelbooks released. Just holding it in the hand and you can tell it's high quality, feels like much heavier gauge.

The matte finish is thick, full and inky black. None of this pasty, streaky powdered crap you get nowadays. Spot gloss makes Thor stand out and the shine on the back is just something else. I also think the artwork is very stylish all round. Personally I'm not a fan of the 'floating heads' on the new one. You can tell it's just the amaray artwork re-used.

Still, this does look decent for the price and I'm happy that those who missed out on the original can get this for a retail price to go with their Avengers collection.

its worth £10 like all zavvi and play.com re-releases. they even added an extra £1 on this compared to usual

Just got mine looks really good, wasn't expecting it to be embossed, finish looks nice, but I need to unwrap it to see properly. Much better than expected :D

Ok after seeing the pics of the finish maybe I'll just leave it sealed, back looks better that way anyway :D No spot gloss for the extra pound? sad

I'm not calling you crazy or anything, but I think psychology may have the answer. Because it's worth so much, and so highly valued, it feels 'high quality'. It's probably not that different to other steelbooks.

That being said, I've never held one. It might just be that good.

There is far too much snobbery where it comes to re releases, so you have a FS Iron man..give yourself a pat on the back...I have a Play one and Im very happy with it thank you very much :) but this is ok...If I didnt have the HMV one Id buy it, but seen as I have that, plus the Avengers briefcase which contains the film on Blu and again on 3D blu, I dont want to buy the film again!

The HMV one is one of my favourite steels, nothng to do with the price on the secondary market or rarity ..it wasnt rare or expensive when I bought it, I could have walked into any of the (at the time) 3 HMV stores near me and picked one off the shelf months after release, and I did for a couple of friends in the states, then it went OOS and people lost their ****...but its a simple design, and I know its a fine line between simple and lazy, but I think HMV's is one of the occasions that simple art just works..and it was voted as steel of the year after all ...

The Zavvi one is nice enough, the back is a bit plain but not that different to a lot of the fox titles Play released, and I do prefer the inside art of the zavvi one to the HMV one, I suppose if I could have HMV's outside, and zavvis inside Id be happy...plus the 2 disks ;)

I'm quite happy with this one. Sure it doesn't have the gloss version of the HMV release, and the back art leaves a lot to be desired but I actually prefer the front art as it's more colourful and Thor's pose is better.

It's definitely not because of the value (unless sealed I guess?). Mine is open and it really does feel more weighty and the finish feels smooth and thick. As with most things in life once they are more in demand quality usually suffers because the companies involved want to make more profit and a lesser outlay in costs.

Having said that, there are reports that the Blufans FACE/OFF feels more weighty and higher quality, and by looking at photos it does look 'chunky'. I haven't got it in hand yet so can't comment myself.

I just think higher quality steels are much rarer to come by these days. They are like finding a goldmine when they do though, hehe.

It does indeed mate. Feels really weighty and well made, the embossing is really smooth looking too.

Shame if Paramount start doing these finishes because usually they're among the best. Hope Pain & Gain delivers :ohno:
