TBH the Scanavo steelbook trailers showing a glossy steelbook should not be taken for granted/as factual . . .
These trailers should carry a warning along the lines of, "The finish of this steelbook may be different in actuality to that shown in this video".
In fact these trailers can be downright misleading . . . with customers buying and receiving DONNIE DARKO, HELLRAISER etc. after watching the glossy pre-release vids . . . then grumbling not unreasonably that "I thought this was going to be a gloss steelbook!"
From experience we know by now that they rarely end up that way in-hand.

However, as this is not coming from Arrow but from Disney (a company no stranger to lovely glossy steelbooks in the past) - and the Scanavo blurb does state, "Gloss varnish" - it's quite possibly accurate.

Scanavo I would not go by what they list for the finish they often get details wrong
UK/Europe/Asia and USA steelbooks are made in different Scanavo plants

The listing on scanavo website has combined both UK/Europe/Asia and USA release under one listing
They usually have these as separate listings for each region

It could end up been a gloss varnish in USA and not in UK/Europe/Asia or vice versa and this has happened previously

Only way to know what the UK steelbook finish will be is when it's in hand with customers

The videos on scanavo website are computer generated and often you won't see the embossing/debossing if it's on the steelbook and all will look glossy regardless of what the actual finish is they are not actual videos of the steelbooks themselves like you would see from an unboxing video posted by a customer who has the steelbook itself

I think it's safe to assume if there is no embossing for the UK steel then it will most likely be glossy. I cannot see this one being a flat matte finish.

I never go by those fake videos.

It states 'glossy varnish' under the finish category on steelbook.coms product page.

At least Europe or U.S. (or maybe both) is guaranteed a gloss finish.

Hellraiser and Donnie Darko were never described as being glossy.....

Scanavo have listed steelbooks before as glossy varnish but steelbook itself was not full gloss finish some have been Satin or matte with some spot gloss and some zero varnish

Look at their website they have some steelbooks listed as glossy and some as glossy varnish
The steelbooks that listed as glossy are the ones that have been full gloss

Yes, the Scanavo descriptions maybe not as clear as they could be with some confusion possible regarding the differences between two of these three- "SPOT GLOSS" , "GLOSSY" and "GLOSS VARNISH".

My take on the Scanavo descriptions - based solely on the three examples below - is that:-
a) No interpretation needed for spot gloss as we all know that the glossy bits could be just the title . . . and/or selective parts of the artwork . . . or, as in this case, complete artwork and title.
b) Full thick gloss across the covers
c) Gloss across the covers but not as thick a coating as (b)

Recent examples of the three descriptions:-

(a) "Spot gloss" ........................................................................................... (b) "Glossy" ......................................................... (c) "Gloss varnish"
THE INCREDIBLES (U.K.) Artwork and title ................................................ JIGSAW (U.S.) Everything ....................... DANS UN RECOIN DE CE MONDE (France) Everything . . . but not as thick so as to reveal more of the metallic reflections

The German 3D release will be identical and is still available for €28.99......

I was looking to do that, but the German release now shows floating head pictures on the spine and the German title above the quarter slip on the steelbook itself...though I doubt the title will be in German, it does seem it will not have any title on the spine....

Another option would be amazon Italy then
That would def be English friendly.

We can now see what it looks like in the flesh - thanks to the good folk at Film Arena.

Not an overridingly positive first impression . . . but as I like the front artwork I can live with it and it's certainly not the worst steelbook I've bought over the past almost ten years.

Can see the glossy sheen on the back cover so at least it's not matte . . .
. . . and it's indeed as described - i.e. not "gloss" like JIGSAW ^ but "gloss varnish" like DANS UN RECOIN...^ - with metallic reflections evident in the lighter red "mist" . . . can be seen when pics taken from different angles:-

Decent enough for a WEA release but most certainly the Blufans version will be untouchable.

I'm just picturing this one side by side with the Blufans Thor Lenti slip. :coffee:

If the WWA has the english title (not 'bossed), fingers crossed that the German version might be not with German title
