Hi!

I'll be travelling to Paris and various parts of Italy like Venice, Rome and Florence in early January. Would like some input from members regarding any recommended locations or travel tips that would help. Very impressed with the railway network so far. Everything seems to be connected across Europe!

Thanks in advance!

:D

Don't mess around the airport in Paris (Charles de Gaulle), the small bus that takes you from one terminal to another takes a while. Give yourself a good 3 hrs to get there on your way to Italy, otherwise, you might miss your plane. Go to your terminal and there's usually things to see and shops to buy stuff at there. I was just there over the weekend, definitely a nightmare of an airport...FYI

I will be going by rail to Paris from London, and the night train towards Venice later, so I likely won't be visiting the CDG airport.

But I'll probably be flying back to London from Italy's Fiumicino later, of which I was given the same advice to reach the airport early. :p

Has anybody taken the Thello night train before? Heard rather conflicting reviews about it and some of the negative ones kinda worries me.

Whats the estimated time for the train ride?
2h 16m from London to Paris via Eurostar.

The sleeper train from Paris to Venice looks to be 13.50h (EEK!) throughout the night, board around 8pm and arrive at 9.30am the next day.

Could possibly fly via easyjet too, with only an hour and a half's journey instead but it'd have to be a day flight. :p

Wouldn't it cost you around the same to just fly? Would definitely be a lot easier. Just saying.
Yep, the price is about the same, difference of only a few euros. The original plan was to fly, but some of us wanted to try traveling by rail. :p Will definitely look into switching to a flight though...given we're already going on day trains.

Unless you're under 9 stone and under 6'0", then I'd go by train. Plenty of room and comfort. Easyjet, no room, noisy etc. Unless you HAVE to use Easyjet, I really wouldn't.

Well, I was given several £50s and €100s at a local money changer, which I only realised later would be a problem at some establishments. :(

Does anybody have any advice on how to go about breaking the notes into smaller denominations? Would be greatly appreciated! :)

You are going to visit beautiful destinations. Have a nice and safe journey. If you are going to Paris must visit Eifel tower of this city. I have visited it and I cannot forget its beauty and fine art work. You can also visit Louvre museum of Paris. You have already discussed about Italy’s places. When you return from you journey must share about these places with me.

Hi! I visited Europe in late December 2013 to early Jan 2014. My only regret was that I didn't have a longer time to spend in each city. Otherwise, the cities were really beautiful and the people were incredibly accommodating and friendly, an extremely enlightening and enjoyable journey.
