Sorry, but I disagree. In the past Studio Canal titles like Place Beyond the Pines, Byzantium and Filth were all not smash success but they still priced the steels at 19 and 17GBP. How is this title any different than those?
True. Place beyond the pines and Filth are two of my favourite steels so I reckon there's a chance this could be a nice steelbook when it arrives.
Also, the budget for this was only £8 million and it made less than half of that back at the box office so I'm surprised they're releasing a steelbook at all to be honest. Probably won't make it's money back even with DVD sales !
You're suggesting that Zavvi randomly 'try their luck' on new releases by artificially hiking the price. Therefore making a limited appeal art movie even less appealing.
I'm suggesting that there is a reason a retail price is set at a certain level, and it probably has much to do with what it costs Zavvi to acquire the rights for a particular movie.

The dealer price (cost to zavvi to buy ) is decided by Studio usually by doing a deal with the retailer or retailer getting a deal with the studio
Studiocanal decide the dealer price and it then Zavvi who use a pre set mark up margin to decide the Retail Price to make their profit
This is usually set in stone what the Profit margin would be but a lot retail shops often with a big release reduce the price against other shops to get sales and get more sales from other products as people buy
But as this is an exclusive release they don't need to do this
When a product is not selling well you start to reduce the price to clear stock but still getting a lower profit but at some stage you sell stock at a loss to clear stock not selling even after its reduced but you should only start do this if you made an overall profit on previous stock sold against the total amount you paid for the units of stock but on a rare occasion you have to take a loss on majority of a release if its not selling even after its reduced
But some retailers especially High Street Stores and Some On-line Retail Shops can and have sold a new release at a loss from day 1 (To get customers into your shop to buy other products that have good profit margin and covers any loss you made on the promoted product your selling of at a reduced price)
Zavvi could reduce the price if they wanted to and still make a profit but that would depend on the dealer price

Yep, I agree, I know zavvi are the dealer and they have to pay a set price from the studios, but they still cannot justify that price. Yes they do have set margins, but no business sticks to their set margin if they think they can get more. If which Zavvi are trying to milk it with the ultra low run also, hoping to get a bigger mark up and profit on it!
looks nice but like many, I'm not paying £24.99. The film is fractious and awkward - would merit being seen again but would probably sacrifice the attractive artwork. Bizarre price.
That price is gonna turn people that want this into scalpers, ordering 5 to try and make back some cash off their copy but I wouldn't waste my breath to be honest, I can't see people paying more than £25 as is so when everyone realises they'll cancel leaving this available for awhile when it's released. It's a shame cause I think this could turn into a really collectible steelbook but not at that price. It's destroyed all appeal in it. Just another overly priced movie sold from a greedy company. I love the movie but I'll be sticking with the amaray
