haven't seen the film yet but really want to. I love sci-fi of all sorts and this looks like an oddity, so should be good. But I won't be paying 25 quid for it. Nice looking Steel, but there's no way I'll support those kinda prices. I'll probably get the Amaray on release instead, hopefully with a nice slip.

Yh not many left but probably get a lot of cancelations this one or will come back in stock surprisingly after it's sold out nothing unusual with zavvi

Whats shocking to me is that people complain about the price of this and zavvi but then they go ahead and order it anyway. You'd think with the community we have here that if we stuck together and steadfast against this kind of pricing by NOT ordering - they will reduce the price. Its kinda sad to see people being taken advantage of in this way.

By the way - just to chime in on Levi's discussion earlier - As much as I respect the work you guys do here (Apsmith, DB etc) I do think there is a definite amount of censoring that goes on here in terms of protecting retailers and their tactics from our feedback as forum members. Its never a problem when people have positive things to say, but as soon as there is negative feedback it needs to be swept into a thread somewhere in the corner away from future potential zavvi customers?

I'm not saying we should allow people to call each other names etc. Offcourse there's no place for that. But when people want to share their feelings about exorbitant pricing, or poor service with regards to a specific movie they ordered - it should be allowed to go in the thread for that film so others that are considering ordering it may be aware of possible issues with the release. If someone is frustrated about something its helps to share that with a group and see that your feelings may be reciprocated.

One of the reasons I virtually NEVER go into the zavvi retailers thread is because if I have a problem with my Under the Skin release and I'm not allowed to post here.. I have to sort thru hundreds of pages of other peoples complaints about Captain America, Place Beyond the Pines, Disneys and countless other steel complaints all shoved into one thread even thou they have their own threads? Doesn't seem like a very efficient system to me.

The problem with allowing discussions like that in the main Steelbook threads is that they then become discussion threads for the retailer rather than actually talking about the Steelbook. A lot of people subscribe to the threads and they want to hear news on the Steelbook, not problems people are having with the retailer.
The Retailer section is always there, I wouldn't say it is swept in a corner. Everyone is free to post in there any issues, problems they have with any steelbook release. We have a seperate section for the retailer as this is the most efficient way to keep the main Steelbook threads related and on topic.

In discussing discussions like that you're actually discussing the thing we aren't meant to to be discussing, and leading discussions away from the main discussion.

:D

No matter what we as a community did the 2000 would still sell, no boycotting would've stopped 2000 selling out. HDN has a big community but we aren't the only people who follow steelbook releases. It's worldwide don't forget.

In that case, the thread should be locked and only real news about the steel and photos should be posted by the mods. Everything else can be discussed in the different thread, some other part of the forum. It does not make any sense, IMO. Really, what can you say about the steel? It is glossy/matte, debossed/embossed/flat, etc? That it had shipped? Always thought it is a fairly weird "rule" not being able to discuss more than that (actually the reason I do not post a lot).

Its kinda sad to see people being taken advantage of in this way.

In my opinion it's not really any worse than putting an existing title in a steelbook and selling it for £10 more than what the already-released amaray goes for, a practice which seems to be lapped up here.

The damage in terms of what prices can be charged and paid for has been long-done.

The extra £5 on top of the price of this release is, to me, less insulting than charging £15 for a title like Stargate which can currently be picked up in amary form (same disc) for £3 in Fopp.

The thread won't be locked unless it continues to derail and if there are any questions as to what should or shouldn't be posted in the discussion threads please read the Do's and Don'ts to familiarize yourself with the rules. Thank you for understanding. :)

Not wanting to derail the thread but retailers will sell things as high as they think the market can bear. If Zavvi or any retailer think they can sell X number of units at Y price then they'll charge that. So Zavvi might think they can sell 2000 copies at £24.99, whilst for a wider release they might think 4000 at £19.99. Limited print-runs of any item tend to be more collectable i.e more expensive.

For brand new releases I don't mind paying a few Pounds extra for a steelbook. I'm more weary of catalouge titles being overly marked up. If you can pick up a standard case for around £7 then I think when you start charging above £14.99 for a steelbook then it's moving towards being overpriced (unless it has something signifigantly new to it in terms of features etc..). But that'sjust me others might not think the same.

If this title does sell out it would appear that Zavvi got there price right.

I disagree with the 'people subscribe to the threads' point. This is a discussion forum if I'm not mistaken, not a platform for retailers to showcase their products. I appreciate that people like to browse the site to keep updated, but why should the experience of regular long term members be affected?

It's funny how this argument always has 2 sides.

I complained about the Blufans Iron Man thread being nothing but email notifications of people posting custom art.

I was politely told to unsubscribe if I wasn't happy. (Which I did, as 50 or so posts a day of custom artwork was unbearable)

Now if I'm not mistaken there is a thread specifically for custom art. So why is the argument different?

It seems only the mods can pick and choose which content they see applies to the relevant thread.

I don't see how long term members experience is affected. There are people who are waiting on info such as release date, availability, steelbook info and so on. They shouldn't need to recieve an email everytime someone wants to complain about the retailer. That's why we have a seperate thread for that. If we have everything in one thread it will get derailed in Zavvi talk and for the people that want to find info about the actual steelbook it's going to be very difficult.
Off course to a certain extent discussions may stray off topic, that is bound to happen. What we don't want is page after page of continuous off topic posts. Thanks for you understanding. Now can we get back on topic please folks!

Your example is dead on. I have gone into that Kimchi Iron Man thread 8x times over the past week looking for an update and its all people posting custom artwork. Not one single time was it actually news from Choi or Kimchi. But because it helps build excitement for the release rather than criticism its allowed?

I think the all of us are trying to say is - We understand as a website/ company you guys are meant to support retailers and their efforts to sell merchandise, which is fine because I find alot of the updates and info here useful - but should these threads also not help serve the community by making it a place to share/post opinions (positive or negative) freely without having them relegated to another section of the forum?

Most of the folks here are decent and take the time to write about their own concerns/ experiences to share with fellow forum members to help them make informed decisions about their future purchases. I'm sure you can understand how someone can experience feelings of despair and censorship when their posts are deleted/ modified - and this will likely demotivate them to share in the future. Which I'm sure is not the the type of atmosphere we want in any community.

But I digress.. I don't want to be banned for stirring up trouble. Just sharing some thoughts that I hope will help MODs re-examine their system of evaluating what posts are "relevant" in threads.
