After some pleas and batting some puppy eyes, I am happy to introduce you to the movie poster/art forum!

Our hope is that we can make this a thriving section of hdn where we discuss the awesome (and sometimes quite expensive) hobby of collecting movie art. Feel free to post anything related to movie posters, movie art and anything in between. While we wont snub anyone that wants to talk about non-movie related art, we highly recommend keeping the topics inline with the rest of the site.

Until staff have discussed it, I suggest keeping trade queries to the main trade areas. Please and thank you.

Enjoy!

Thanks for starting this and getting this going. Being new to the world of poster/print art and visiting a lot of different sites dedicated to this hobby, I think we need a little :hidefninja: interjected into it.

Now, we need a sticky for a "Pics Of Your Last Print Art Acquired" thread, so I can show off my 1st 4 prints I got framed. ;)

fixed, time to post some pics!

So, can someone teach me exactly what a variant is? I keep running into that.

In the poster world a Variant is almost always the same image, but has different coloring from the original and a smaller run production, but not always the case. There are variants with different images and different sizes as well.

Example of color variant

First one is the regular

Second one is the variant

The pics didn't show up for me. So the variant is usually more rare than the original?

More rare, but not always more sought after. For instance, the SotD regular with a run of 400 goes for around $150, but the variant with a run of 175 goes for around $100.

Sometimes it a difference between a loud print (bright colors) and a subtle print (more dull colors). Certain collectors try to stick with one or the other because of how they would look next to each other hung up. The variants are usually the subtle prints, but other times they are switched.

My favorite variants now (and I'm sure yours too ;)), are the ones with different language text. The Battle Royale & Stout Kill Bill print variants have Japanese text instead of English and that is the only difference. I've got the BR, but will be awhile before I land a KB V. :(

I go by looks alone. Like for instance I like the Django, Avengers regulars ... and dont care for the variants ... even tho they are more rare.

However I liked the scarface and Rambo variants better.

Go by your own taste, saves you $ in the long run. :)
