What is the Difference between Region B (Locked) and Region B?

I don't think there is:confused: I've. Been able to play mostly all the Region B or locked discs with no problems. Iron sky is the only one I couldn't play but that was the Insignia player's fault. Other members were able to play it on other blu ray players with no problems.

Thats why I thought locked meant that, as I could not watch Iron Sky either, as well as a couple of others. So why not just say it region B instead of saying they are region B locked?

Saying it is locked means that it won't play in any other region, I guess stating locked makes it a bit more definite and stops people asking if it plays in other regions. A region free player should play movies from any region, if it doesn't then the region coding isn't at fault, there's another issue.

the 'locked' aspect on any disc means it can ONLY be played on region B (or whichever region its locked too) compatible players ie Region B players AND/OR region free

same limits for region A and C

you have three Blu-ray Regions. A, B & C

these can either be locked to a specfic region (A for example) or they can be locked to multiple regions (A,B or A,C or B,C)

the term region free means that they are encoded regions A,B & C

the packaging on the Blu-ray cover may display A,B,C if it's region free or it may just display the region code for that area (B for example in the UK)

it's a 50/50 chance that if the title is showing Region B only that it's either locked to B or if it's region free

you can use this http://bluray.liesinc.net/ to help but i tend to find that i get better results from forums in all honesty

titles tended to be locked to a certain region for license issues only. if a single company has worldwide release license then chances are that it will be region free (mostly the bigger hollywood studios like warner, Universal etc) . only Fox used to region lock their earlier titles

a lot of the smaller companys (Arrow, Shout, Scream Factory, Anchor Bay, Second Sight) tend to

Hope this clears things up buddy :)

You guys must Think I am a complete idiot. I know what all the region codes are and for what countries. I am well aware of what the regions means including what region free means. I even know all the DVD coding. I simply meant why bother putting the word locked after the region code when that is obvious. Some people say region B, and others say region B locked. So I thought there was a difference.

i think what they mean is that because the disc is region B, it might be different from a disc that was released in Region A even though it's the same company that is releasing it

and i don't think your an idiot either Rick ;)

we're all here to help

To answer your question Rick there is basically no difference between saying its region B or Region B locked. I think locked sounds more definitive so a lot of people prefer to say that rather than just Region B as people may think there's a chance that still might play. It's just a word that gets added on as some people prefer to say it!

Good question, as it's always confused me too... especially since I once mentioned something being "region B" and then another member replied saying "no, it's region B LOCKED". :dunno:

They made me feel like an idiot at the time, but if what you guys have said is true, then I guess they were actually the idiot. :D
