Great now I have to go out and buy the Canada edition as well! It'll look good with my debossed Hurt Locker (IT).

depends on what do you mean with "modern war films"

... some other examples for war films in general could be:

Saving Private Ryan
Black Hawk Down
Green Zone
Act of Valor
Letters from Iwo Jima
Flags of our Fathers
Tears of the Sun
Band of Brothers (tin)
The Pacific (tin)
Das Boot (tin)
The Hunt for Red October
Top Gun
Coriolanus
Battleship
Casablanca
Lifeboat
Inglorious Basterds
Pans Labyrinth
Zulu
The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp
Gone with the Wind
Dr Zhivago

Sorry I should have been more specific. The reason I ask is i'm gonna get shelves up and my display will have a shelf dedicated to this genre.

Bascially, what I had in mind, were films like Hurt Locker, Saving Matt Damon [lol], Apocolypse Now, where the focus is on the soldiers and the battle field. Mostly 20th century wars like Vietnam, Afghanistan and the Second World War.

But also i'd include films from this century, like with Hurt Locker. Not films where there is a war on but it's not really central to the story. Or Classic war films like 300, Troy and Gladiator.

Pearl Harbour would be another one, Black Hawk Down as well. I'd omit films like schindler's list and pan's labrynth. Inglourious Basterds is border line, as I have a shelf for this film already.

well the list above is a good indicator for some war movies in a steel you could like i gues... im still waiting for: duell enemy at the gates, the bridge on the river kwai, paths of glory, platoon, downfall, brotherhood, deer hunter, dirty dozen and the thin red line. hope they come soon :)

what would modern mean ? pre 2000s or earlier?

also
full metal jacket
pearl harbour
tropic thunder for the comedy element

Basically Action packed war films from 20th and 21st century is what i'm after. America and/or UK kicking ass! Here's a list of what I want/have for 'my shelf'

Black Hawk Down
Saving Private Ryan
Full Metal Jacket - have GER need CAD
Hurt Locker - Have ITALIAN need all others
Green zone
Tears of the sun

I'm reluctant to add Top Gun as it's all fighter jets and inuendos (and because Tom Cruise has saturated the market on his own). War of the worlds won't be in either for obvious reasons. Lifeboat and Casablanca aren't ones I would consider either.

Well for what its worth these steelbooks from my collection are what I consider war movies:

Historic Warfare:
Gladiator
Troy
Last Samurai
Robin Hood

Modern Warfare:
Hurt Locker
Saving Private Ryan
Special Forces (French movie)
Green Zone
Black Hawk Down

Thanks mate, the classics like 300 troy and gladiator will have there own shelf as well I hope, i've got at least two versions of each of those including the premium editions. I just saw RED SCORPIAN and this also counts, bit of a rambo rip-off by the looks of things but can't go wrong with a film with some ripped bloke who attacks an entire army and wins.

WARHOSE! :hilarious:

Just found out there's actually a DVD steelbook (G1 of couse) called War Films, I think there's 5 in total.

Yep there is, you can pick it up at Amazon here although you should be able to get it for a better price than that. They can be found for around £15 with a bit of searching!

Why no Steel for this?? I have the DVD steel but no BR steel ever came out? Surely of all the War films around this is SCREAMING out for a steelbook???
Platoon first needs better Audio and Picture quality to earn a steelbook release.
