Steelbook collecting getting boring? Not the same as 12-18 months ago

Why do you you/don't you buy Steelbooks?

Don't think it's getting boring but I also choose my steels with care.
I also like digibooks and -packs more tbh. You get a lot more for your money and they don't get scratched and dented and all that.

I only buy very few steelbooks now but if anything steelbooks are back on the rise.
Some great releases happening right now and companies are finding different new ways to package I.e. Life of Pi & Hobbit.
The collectors are being heard. More steelbooks getting embossed/debossed, having stickers, slips, bonus items, more limited
I have totally cut down but it's fun to watch on the forums. If a blufans/hidefninja exclusive comes along you are fool to miss out

Oh yeah, I'm already out of the game. Now I'm collecting collectible figures, preferably Hot Toy 1/6 scale figures. That my change though because another company has stepped up to the plate called Play Imaginative and there Iron Man figures are really bad assbut expensive.
With as expensive as these figures are, I'm still spending less than what I was spending on Steelbooks.
Love Hot Toy 1/6 scale figures! They are expensive, but boy do they look good in my shelves (sorry slightly off topic haha)
Anyways, been collecting steels since the days of DVD steels, but even now can't say I'm bored of it. Sometimes I take a break from steels depending on what's going on in my life, but whether I buy or not, I'm always excited to see new steels
I love steelbooks, but only for films I love - you often get much cooler artwork than the standard release (see Black Swan and GI Joe 2) and that artwork is full bleed.
I prefer digibooks at this point, because I love leafing through a wealth of sketches and movie trivia before/after watching a movie. Some digibooks just feels nicer in the hand than steelbooks imo. But it really depends on the design/artwork.
When it comes to steelbooks, I tend to choose titles that include something extra, like a booklet with essays on the movie. I collect the Masters of Cinema ones because they look really good due to the simple design, and the booklets tend to be more in-depth than most digibooks.

I hope people who are interested in steels don't get discouraged by this thread.
It's definitely interesting to read, but everybody is different.

I'm much like good ol djhil; pretty much done with steel collecting except a few here or there that peak my interest.
I am mainly moving to slips cause then I can open them and enjoy them. After all, that's why I started to collect steels. Buy them for movies I love. Wanted the best set of Harry potter movies I could find (was far from satisfied by that tiny set from best buy) then I got hooked. Then it turned from buying to open and watch to buying the rare ones and then not opening them cause they were so expensive. Haha so it eventually got to the point that I decided enough was enough; switched my game up, but I'll always love steels!
Please don't be discouraged new collectors! It can be a lot of fun. Just know what you're getting into

I just went and bought a bunch at wal-mart. But 99% of these are getting opened and watched!

I've got about 20 on order and had 30 on order in the fall of last year. I'm glad I've got most every old one that I want (150 or so steelbooks and metal boxes). There are more good ones coming out than I expected to see after the huge waves last year. I thought I was done after last November. I am hoping for some new Disney steel for future releases. I will also buy a digibook or digipack if I think that's the best option. Amarays and slips are OK if there is no better option.
I need some reason to feel any release is special before picking it up. I was never interested in a movie collection before I found out about SteelBooks.

i have just started collecting. its just been 2 months and i have 50 steelbooks and 15 on its way. love the feeling of finding a new steelbook in the mail when i get home from work.

Nope I must admit that lately I have drifted towards Slips/Sleeves when it comes to certain new releases (Snow White And The Huntsman,Ted And Finding Nemo) not beacause I want to necessarily but it's a lot cheaper and with moving into a new home and and having kids I finally realised it was an expensive hobbie!
Maybe the boring thing about collecting steelbooks is the fact that, in spite of new arts, embossing and stuff, you'll be always getting editions with the same "shape", IMO.

When I decide to acquire an edition of a movie that I like it is always good to get something remotely related to its theme. I mean, isn't amazing to get a bowling ball for The Big Lebowski or an actual robot for Wall-e??

Like anything else, I just pick and choose the titles I want. The boring ones, or those titles that have no re-watchability for me, I simply skip.
Not boring but gone are the golden days of collecting. I am now forced to give up hardcore collecting to make space for my son who is trying to get up and run around.

I believe that instead of collecting everything you should be selective, then you will hardly be bored in my opinion.
not bored, but disenchanted! coz the amount of steels we having now days, it's been a while since i decided to buy only the ones in which i like the movie, but still, even the ones that i like are getting release in such small period of time i can keep up...at one point i thought in buying TAXI DRIVER, THE SIXTH SENSE, AMADEUS and DREDD. Now, i'm having second thoughts because there are other ones i prefer, also, i have great diggis that are beautiful, now days i have come to a decision that if i have the diggi for that particular movie, i would skip it! IT IS WHAT IT IS!

Although a newish collector with only a few Steelbpoks i collect for the art and movie I like. I try and get Steels for the films I like the most with the best art in my opinion.
Of course, I'd love to try and get all the Disney ones, but that's a bit out of my reach I think due to the sheer amount.
I definitely plan on getting all of the Pixar films, and would love to also get all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe ones as well.

Rarity comes first, I get a kick showing off a Steel that is difficult to get hold of.
A great movie is a great movie regardless. If I see a Steel which is rare, with great artwork, added extras, and an awful movie - I'd still buy it. Sad but true!
