Are they really noticeable? I'm just looking at my copies and I don't see any but the spines are so pale, or bright, so I'm just wondering if it would be easy to tell if there was a spine slash.

Definitely - they'd be grey / black against that very bright set of colors from the design.

Stand out pretty badly.
