Would you buy a dented steelbook?

I've came across several steelbooks up for sale on eBay recently but with dents at a reduced price, some of these could be regarded as "grails". But I've seen Aladdin brand new and sealed but is noted to be dented. I'm sure some of you relax your attitudes towards buying steelbooks just for the sakes of it. Even though the artwork can be so superb, and you just bite anyway ;)

The real question would be, what do you think about buying a steelbook you know is dented? Surely I should just buy the amaray instead as the mere point of buying steelbooks is for the sturdy case and the artwork, and wouldn't buying a dented one defeat the purpose?

I've never came across this question posted on here, so what are your opinions? :movie:

If it's not OCD mint, it's not in my collection. Don't even allow finger prints on then, all steels must be handled with a soft silk cloth once removed from their protective casing and handled only by me. :)

I would say if it's only for you, that you will open it, and it's minor than it might be worth it...

BUT if you are an OCD collector or even a simple collector, I would personally never buy a steelbook that isn't OCD Flawless...on some releases like the Korean sometimes you see small holes in the shrink wrap, but you can see when you look at many of the same release if they are all like this, in this case I buy it, but if not, even for me ''Shrink Wrap'' has to be Flawless, no dings, no dents, etc...

I look like a crazy person when I buy a steelbook, looking at all the movies to find a perfect one.

In other words...hell to the no. :p

For me, it all depends on what the damage is. Scratches and chips, I stay away from. But depending on what kind of dent it is, I can press them out, so I don't immediately rule them out, even though I'm pretty OCD about condition.

I also think that the above is partly to do with my situation and were it different, I might not touch the dented ones with a barge pole; I'm long term unemployed coming off the back of long term sick leave, so money isn't burning a hole in my pocket.

Ho-hum!

if the dent i(or whatever the defect is) isn't easily visible, then yes, I have no problem buying. My German Captain America apparently has a dent right in the middle of the shield, but you'd never notice.

It's not ideal but yes I have bought a few super cheap but in the main the slightest mark upsets my OCD far too much, lol

BUMP! Time for a good old thread revival. ;)

Since I posted this I now realise I have at least three steels in my collection with spine slashes, various others with dents/creasing/paint chips, misaligned embossing etc (this and spine slashes irk me the most). So I suppose I could say say yes; yes I would buy a dented Steelbook.

Sadly when there's such a high demand for something, during mass production flaws are likely to occur and overall quality control can drop. Inspecting each and every one of those "limited to 4000" steels to reach the requirements of the average collector can be a tough one at that. With a majority of retailers the focus is on the prize (our wallets!) and not so much the collector. Once a fun hobby over time can become a strive for perfection. Not expecting the smallest of manufacturing flaws can be an unrealistic expectation and at times a difficult one to have.

But even still, it's a lottery and you never know if you'll win it until you try.

Remember, no matter how many flaws there are on it; Steelbooks are still awesome!
