The Play.com release is certainly not first class. I bought it on release, sold it for a profit and bought the French version which is a hundred times better from an aesthetic perspective. The French title is a bit of a let down of course but the artwork is fantastic. It is a much better Steelbook when you consider all the positives and negatives.

On topic: this is now available at Amazon for £17.00. If they drop the price by a tenner, I might be persuaded! :D

i herad there is greek version of first class thats near identical to the play one. would love to find it. no way i can pay £50 for the play version.

also last stand while definitely being the second worst movie in the x-men series ( wolverine origins takes the crown) is still a ok film and isnt on the same sh*tomiter as catwoman, both fantastic 4's, elektra, daredevil, batman forever, batman & robin or the toby maguire spidermans

Pre-ordered at Zavvi (for now) + bought all the X Steels on Amazon (5 Pounds of).
I also bought all the Dutch 2 disk Amray versions (for the half of the price), to
include them in these Steelbooks (I keep the original UK disks also).

Besides these I also have the French Jumbo, French Steel X-Men first Class (NL Subs), A dutch Amray version, and some movies of Wolverine, include Steelbooks (UK and Dutch)
I also still want the German and French Wolverine and The Wolverine's.

If you read this, you could get the idea .. that I collect some superhero movies :)
I don't watch movies often (very rarely). But yo can see it like; collecting post stamps ... but then bigger ;)

Can I just ask again, please. All those who have pre-ordered on Amazon, is this definately the steelbook? It just comes up blu ray, £16.99. No mention of steelbook when you follow the link above. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers.

Definitely a Steelbook dude. Have no fear.

I'm quite happy about this. I'm hoping this now means 1st Class will get a nicer Steelbook than the one Play released. :D

Yes I am going to order this one too, I want to complete my X-men collection.
I only need X-men and this one, the last stand, I am also not that happy of the front cover but at least it has inside art work.
And maybe we'll get lucky and they will change the art work before the final release just like Thor 2 the Dark World

my X-men collection so far, includes the X-men first class French steelbook, much better then the play com release. The French version has inside art work and dutch subtitles

and now we only need a really nice embossed steelbook for X-men days of Future Past

" Mutation: it is the key to our evolution. It has enabled us to evolve from a single-celled organism into the dominant species on the planet. This process is slow, and normally taking thousands and thousands of years. But every few hundred millennia, evolution leaps forward. "

I'll admit, the artwork is lazy and 2nd rate compared to Geek Tragedy's masterpiece (as usual):

Why can't studios make the effort to do things right? It probably took them more effort to remove the original Wolverine picture and put the new one in. And to do a bad crop on the characters towards the edge. Please ... I could do better.

Certainly would've been nice to have some consistency like what was done with the Harry Potter collection from Future Shop.

Guess I'll still be ordering anyway since I have the first two just to complete the set. :movie:

I disagree I'm afraid.

There's really no need to emphasize Wolverine as much as they have. While it's a known fact that he's the most popular character in the films, at this stage no one's buying the steelbook for his appearance alone. The cover would have been better with the original image of them standing in a row, not this Photoshopped version with Wolverine now lit up like a Christmas tree. He was still front and center like he is on every X-Men cover it seems.

There's just no consistency with the front artwork on the X-Men releases. The first steelbook had the theatrical poster, the second used the US DVD art and now we have some amalgamation of different DVD/Blu-ray designs. First Class used teaser art, Origins used your standard 'Wolverine is the man' design and then back to teaser art for The Wolverine.

No doubt by the time DOFP comes out, it'll basically look like Wolverine VII. Hugh Jackman is after all, the only actor whose name appears before the title in the trailer (just look at the credits).
