Steelbook collectors should definitely stop by our stall (1361) at MCM Expo Comic Con... We'll be selling an Ultra Limited run of the Young Frankenstein #Steelbook with this electrifying artwork. Only 1000 copies! Good ol' Igor, we're glad he made the back cover.

Any unsold copies should be available online within a few days of event.

Saw this today at the event and was quite surprised. Was tempted, but I had to hold back on my steelbook blind buys.

That was in the morning. By the end of the day, it looked like they barely sold any as the piles looked similar on the table. Could of sold a table's worth or two and restocked for all I know, but I'd imagine there'll be plenty of the 1000 to go around online. ;)

£80! Are they having a laugh? I think I'll take my chances in a couple of days time, thank you very much. Love the film and haven't seen it in ages and I would like to get hold of this, but not £80 worth of like...
Yeah, looks like the 'ol 'let me go to a convention and try to to flip x,y z' lol....

Hahahhahahah why does that not surprise me, the only thing that does surprise me that it is not zavvi outlet lol

There's that sense of entitlement again. Why is anyone here more deserving than someone who might attend this convention

I am not sure people are, if zavvi want to sell some convention 'exclusive' they can carry on. I think what is upsetting people is steelbooks that 'we' have bought for full price being highly reduced and also selling ones they have told people they had no more so 'we' accept damaged copies or none at all which is kinda annoying when you preordered it like 6 months earlier lol

snooloui.....you DEFINITELY work for Zavvi!!!! That i have NO doubt!!!

''In regards to the Steelbooks we have here at Comic Con, there simply wasn't enough stock of each Steelbook to put back online for fear of a huge oversell, which would disappoint hundreds of customers. For example, if we have 15 Steelbooks and 100+ people who order those Steelbooks.
We brought these Steelbooks with us for our stall to showcase, so that Steelbook collectors and new customers alike could look at what we had to offer and find out more about us. If you've seen any Steelbooks in particular from the photos that you are missing, please private message us on here to let us know and we can arrange to hold some for you. In no way are we trying to deceive or upset anyone, we do not hold stock back tactically, and we apologise if this is how our actions have been interpreted.''

I have NEVER heard such a complete load of tosh trying to explain away how Zavvi have shafted customers who were told "sorry we have NO more copies!"

I am frankly tired of your constant defending of Zavvi...it is pathetic!!!!

While I can understand Zavvi wanting to 'showcase' their products, it is a bit of a kick in the teeth to have items for sale that could have been used to replace damaged items that customers had already purchased.

I'm not a big fan of Zavvis constant default mode of offering a full refund if the item is returned or 10% off if you want to keep it. While I've been fortunate not to have any with damage worth worrying about, if I had, I wouldn't want my money back or a discount, I'd want a pristine copy. To my mind. many of us pre-order steelbooks (especially big titles or those we think will sell out), I wouldn't think it unreasonable for Zavvi (or any company for that matter) to hold back 10% for, let's say, a couple of weeks after dispatch to allow people enough time to get replacements. After this time, it's safe to assume all pre-order issues have been resolved and the rest can be put out for sale through the regular channels. If Zavvi (or whoever) want to sell some at a convention (or similar) then a number should be held back from sale in the first instance.

To say, 'there wasn't enough left to put on the website' doesn't wash either (unless Zavvi doesn't have a real-time inventory). You put 10 on the site, you sell to the first 10 who complete the check out process.

While I don't have an issue with Zavvi in the true sense of the word, there are a few simple things they could do to improve their service ten-fold...

1) Learn the difference between 'sold out' and 'not yet available to pre-order' - this would stop a lot of confusion
2) Allow customers to update credit card details rather than having to wait for a payment issue notification
3) Allow customers to change shipping address details - this caught me with the Indiana Jones steelbooks
4) Rather than say 'sold out', maybe have a 'currently out of stock' option if there's a chance it'll be back, like most Disney releases
5) Not make it so hard to resolve issues - follow Amazon's example

Actually, follow Amazon's example on all of the above. Job done.

I agree with all of you have suggested and its been mentioned by me and lot of others that Zavvi do need to update the website to give customers more ability to change shipping details of an order and payment details

In regard to Zavvi System they don't have real time inventory and is reason why you often see sold out then back to available
Why they don't have real time inventory is crazy

Problem with Zavvi orders lot of people cancel and re order using discount codes etc so they do need a real time inventory as it causes confusion to what stock they have available

Note
There will always be stock at head office not available for online purchase this happen with all retailers not just zavvi and also film studios also keep % of stock for promotion and other reasons

Even with real time inventory system there will always be stock set aside for other uses (promotion copies and stock given free to buyers and other uses) and this is a general practice with all film studios and all retailers the amount of stock kept aside is usually only in region of 10 to 50 copies depending on the print run this can be higher but when its a limited releases its not that many that are kept aside for promotion use

When I was a buyer in the business I got free promotion copies for most releases as this is normal practice but the amount of free promotion stock is not that high and only given when available
Sometimes there are left over promotion stock lying around in Film Studios offices and they are either given away or passed onto retailers to sell and this can be ages after a release has happened

The absolutely shocking treatment customers including myself get from zavvi and now this anyone defending them, zavvi are a joke

You know people are really greedy, £80 is a joke. Be cheaper to get a taxi, a ticket, and go and grab a copy for yourself lol

But will you still be buying their next exclusive?

As I've said many many times. Collectors of steelbooks are really stuck as Zavvi are getting all the exclusives. I really wish it was someone else but we are stuck if you want the exclusives. You will need to buy from Zavvi.

It is from there that the problems occur, you preorder an exclusive of theirs like 6 months in advance. You then receive it badly damaged, they have no 'customer service'. The online messaging service 50% of time won't load or send messages, you have to upload pictures and they won't load and it's all a very stressful time consuming boring experience. Very sadly we have had to do this over and over for the same steelbook.

You are stuck when you get a damaged one you either accept the pitiful 10% partial refund or return it and you don't have it often because they are 'sold out' so to then see them sitting them on their stall is a piss take.

Then for them also having steels that people recently paid full price for be under a £10 is almost comical. £17 for clerks everyone who preorders months in advance but Zavvi amazingly have them at the stall and for £9.99 :woot:

Clerks at mcn is £14.99 not £9.99
It's also not a sold out title
its £2.00 difference and with no postage involved

Clerks at mcn is £14.99 not £9.99

As I said the bigger issue is that they are selling ones that were deemed sold out. Think back to how many V for Vendetta steelbooks were damaged and so many people had to accept damaged ones or returned them and then suddenly they appeared on their outlet and for more money.

I am starting to wonder if some people here are Zavvi in disguise.

We have had to wait weeks on ends for refunds I know they have got the damaged items back and so many issues I can't go through. We have had two and three attempts to get a non damaged of the same steels and recently given up and just got refunds. We have been promised a phone calls from Zavvi high up as we'd had so many problems and poor treatment by Zavvi. It never came :(

I think I will go to MCM next year (May), been going to it on and off since it first starte...noticed more and more retailers appearing in MCM (like CEX, Tokyo Toys etc). It does seem that the Zavvi stall is kinda small compared to the other retailers (in terms of stock and layout). I wonder now they are doing MCM regularly if they will appear at the other MCMs (like Manchester for example)...will we see a rise in more MCM exclusive steels (hope not...).

If Zavvi really did want to cash in from the expo, I am surprised they didnt try and get an exclusive anime steelbook (crap loads of anime fans at that con!)

No company ever puts all their discs up for sale. Criterion have a lot of titles they keep back for their special shop for directors to look though and they also keep spare stock for other problems. So while a particular title is no longer available from the obvious sources copies do exist in their warehouse........ I suspect that whatever Zavvi say they have you can bet there is at least 10% to 15% they hold back.
Makes sense with any business......
At the end of the day don't be having pop at the Zavvi staff. It's the management that need to get their act together. They get sorted out, it follows down through the chain of command.

Really like the look of this Steel, would love to get a copy somehow.
My question is who is getting the other 3000 of these to make the complete order from Scanavo?:jawdrop::naughty::naughty:
There might not be another 3000 - e.g. the Sucker Punch San Diego Comic Con steel was limited to 1000 in total and is WEA.
It's not alone either, check out the Lowest Print Runs topic.

They are useless , but will always get backing and defended by some here..

Zavvi seem to be such a divisive issue. There are times when their actions lead to all the comments and bad feeling pointed at them, cough-customer service-cough. Jumping through hoops to generally get nowhere, and, as stated, clearly having stock remaining when they could have been used to replace damages.

That said, there are other times when the vitriol aimed at them gets ridiculous. Just look at the Maleficent debacle. Fair enough, it was black not white when it came through your letterbox, but the backlash reached fever-pitch. Allegations of Zavvi specifically not updating the image to con people out of their money. Not sending it out 'til release day so you'd be stuck with the Spanish one too if you ordered it. Being lied to by customer service members regarding the colour.

All of these 'reasons' were completely unfounded, but when given reasonable explanations by other members, you find yourself being classed as a 'Zavvi defender' or being accused of actually working for Zavvi. Please note, I am neither.

I could point out many examples of incorrect artwork on Play.com, items being dispatched days after release on Amazon.co.uk and incorrect information being given out by online and brick and mortar stores worldwide.

There seems to be something about steelbooks which gets our blood boiling with Zavvi. I lose track of how often someone has had damage under the J-card, or clearly from the manufacturing process yet go 'what is it with Zavvi and quality control?', or 'why have Zavvi made some Disney titles matte and others gloss?' when clearly this is nothing to do with Zavvi. Yet when these issues appear on HMV exclusives or from Amazon it's always 'what is it with Sony/Warner/Paramount's quality control?'.

The only issue I've had with them was the Indiana Jones titles. I tried in vain to get Zavvi to change the shipping address but to no avail. Like many, I had to sit by the computer hoping to get them when they came back in stock, something I shouldn't have had to do. Maybe I've been lucky with my other purchases, maybe I just don't notice the issues if they have any. Ironically, I've had more steels arrive damaged from Amazon.co.uk (about 5, despite ordering less from them) than I have Zavvi (which was 2, both very minor). That said, Amazon.de is the clear winner so far, with around 20 titles ordered and no damage whatsoever.
