Best film of this year so far. I've seen a fair few films into this year, and this really did top them all - other favourites so far being Django Unchained, To The Wonder, and Side Effects. Incredible filmmaking from Bigelow, she really has outdone herself. Giant shame this was not picked up properly in cinemas and is now sold for an extortionate price on DVD/Blu-Ray as it is a film that needs to be seen, maybe more so than The Hurt Locker was and is. Essential filmmaking.

The DVD/Blu-ray price will drop, just a case of waiting a while!:)

This needs a really nice slipcover. But based on what Pieter posted, maybe not :( ?

Yes, I'm shocked at a few things about this film, considering it's the best film I've gone to see this year in the UK.

a) the lack of screenings during its theatrical release, and it wasn't in many arthouse cinemas let alone Odeon (went to Vue) - late night showings only (for a film nearly 3 hours long, finishing as late as 2.15am)
b) no UK steelbook, but the US and Netherlands get them (then again, was surprised at the lack of Argo special editions), no digibook and not even a slipcover (imagine the artwork - I just ordered the Hurt Locker steelbook which looks to be my best steelbook so far)
c) ridiculous pre-order prices for a regular amaray (obviously due to the UV copy)

One last thing that just niggles at me is the blue band across the top of the artwork that ruins the design and is useless once the UV copy has been used - same reason why triple play blu-rays are sold off cheap these days (never used a digital code, actually have quite a few, may use them one day for the iPad or give them away, but I don't generally like watching films on tiny screens).

Back to the point, I'm annoyed such a great film is getting such a lazy release. I bet there will be a lack of special features too. Another bare-bones high-markup like The Master? Huge shame.

UPDATE: only £12.99 via Sainsbury's Entertainment at the moment. I'm tempted myself, despite the garish artwork...could always sell it if a steelbook is announced I guess.
