I agree with chip and vrob. Having those rare titles is what makes a collection worth having. Plus, when you're in desperate need of mula for something else, it's nice to have to only unload a few titles, rather than most of your collection. I rarely open my steels as well, just like chip.

The whole point is the collecting rare stuff. If they keep re-releasing then it is no longer rare. I will just move on to something else that is rare like stamps or cards or something. I don't open the cases and watch the movie. I have netflix send me discs in the mail for that purpose. In other words the studios are just going to lose sales from me. Thats alot to lose from just one collector as I buy more than 1 of said title.

Basically all I will end up doing is selling the new titles that get released on ebay and amazon and no longer collecting titles I think will become rare.

I'm in sympathy with chipvideo here.

On the one hand all these re-releases are great because a lot of people can now own previously unaffordable titles like Zombieland and Iron man.

But to me the steelbook format no longer has the prestige and collectability it once had. Frankly steelbooks are becoming almost as commonplace as slipcard amaray releases now. Companies like Play.com flooding the market with cheap releases might be a good way for them to hook new buyers, but many long-term collectors - including me - have lost a lot of interest recently. I just don't view steelbooks as being so rare and desirable anymore, and I too will probably be sizing down my collection as a result. To me it's now just another format option, and one I don't get too excited about anymore. To be of interest as a collectable to me, something has to have rarity value. And that fun of hunting down rare steelbooks just isn't there anymore - I'll just wait for it to be re-released somewhere instead.

I wonder in fact how many steelbook 'completists' there are out there now. Not too many, I'm willing to bet.

Agreed, "Saturation" will ruin collecting for me. The same thing happened with sports cards in the early 90's. It became saturated with companies producing cards. Now, instead of having one or two rookie cards of a certain player, there are like fifty available. Ruins the hobbie IMO. Re-printing steels with the original artwork would be like re-printing a classic Rookie card.
I don't mind how they did Iron Man. In fact I applaud them for making it available to new collectors (as well as old). That is the way it should be done.
As an owner of the Zombieland DE version, I welcome the new release as long as it has different artwork. This is the only way to keep the integrity of the hobbie. If not, then it's just business and I will lose interest quickly.

So lots of "collectors" drop out, ditch their collections. Net result to the studio, nadda. They already have their money. They make nothing in the secondary market.

Studios decide to print 10k of every steel instead of 4k world wide. The "collectors" don't buy any, but they still sell out. Who losses out here?

I have the German release, it's one of my favourites. I really don't care if this one is exactly the same, I do hope they improve it though as I'll buy it then.

I appreciate I may be in a minority here, but wouldn't it be better if all the "collectors" that are going to xxxxx, stopped posting about it and just did it?

Collecting means a lot of things to different people. Buying 30 every title is not a collector in my eyes. Hyping everything to the nth degree is not very community spirited either. They are only steelbooks, the world will still turn even if they rerelease every coveted title

im all for this.
and i dont see it as a re-release. its only out on germany, and i hate foreign text on steels, so for me the german doenst count.
its the first zombieland steelbook in full english.
I had the german one a while back, and its ok, but a uk version should beat it.
especially if it has embossing/debossing.
keep the steels coming play.com

PS3-I guess it depends on what a person means by 'clean' Steelbook. Some may mean banners, stickers, writing on back or front, etc etc...

I know what you mean DB, but I'm sure that there is no German text on this SteelBook. I open all of my Steels, so I imagine that funkydamo keeps his sealed, in which case, there probably is some German text or stickers on the shrink wrap.

PS3-gotcha. Yeah, had my DE Steel near and just looked (I open mine, too), and there is a ring of German text around the disc inside referring to the rating. But otherwise nothing. Hopefully Play and studio come to some agreement to release different art, to leave the German one (which I purchased at cost), as a standalone imo.

The German Zombieland has been my #1 want for some time now, but I couldn't bring myself to pay the ebay asking price.

This Play release will fill the void, so to speak. Looking forward to it

I've just noticed too. Says £9.99 on listing page, but £10.99 on product page. Still a great price though.
