It is with pleasure that I can announce to you steelbook fans something that has been in the works for a while. From Scanavo comes Blu-ray Fr4me.

FR4ME™ presents a new generation of packaging. Scanavo’s FR4ME™ is a stylish, collectable and unique new way to package media.

It is Scanavo’s designers’ aim to add more collector value to media packaging and with it‘s stylish design and creative choices Fr4me™ does not disappoint!
Fr4me™ is the first packaging which gives Blu-rayTM owners the choice to customise their pack with their preferred choice of artwork. Fr4me™ can even stand, unaided, in a horizontal position like a real frame.

It’s stylish, minimalistic looks have presented a major attraction to film studio Universal Pictures, who have commissioned it for the UK release of their Sci-fi blockbuster OBLIVION, starring Tom Cruise.

Within its innate ability to house a range of artwork, Fr4me™ can accommodate media on a range of materials, for instance lenticular. There is a special physical closeness to the artwork for the owner as there is no plastic film covering. A multitude of creative options exist for film studios to make Fr4me™ ideal for any genre and title.

Fr4me™ comes in a wide range of standard colours and the durable ABS substrate from which the outer ‘frames’ are made adds an exclusive touch which further redefines Blu-rayTM packaging.

With Scanavo comes the natural reassurance of quality. Scanavo - the premium packaging specialists - have created something worthy of the quality of Blu-rayTM. In a still strong physical media market, Fr4me™ adds value back into packaging and is sure to kick-start a whole new community of collectors.

OBLIVION packed in Fr4me™ will be available at most major UK retailers.
More exciting options for Fr4me™ will be developed in the near future!

Fr4me™ is a patented media packaging by Scanavo. Heard first at Hi-def Ninja

Although those pictures of it opened make it look a little better, I still do not like the no title on the spine. You would have to pretty much memorize each title by color unless you display every single blu ray you own.

Customizing artwork can also be done on Amarays. I have done that many times in the past.

To me this new packaging is an EPIC FAIL and I will never ever bother about it unless it is damn cheaper than the Amaray.

Wish Scanovo bought VMB instead of coming up with this pile of rubbish.

Thanks for the video. I think I'll put the artwork in the opposite sides so I can display the landscape image but without a sideways blu ray logo on the case.

It'll be interesting to see what else gets released with this packaging. I can't imagine buying too many as displaying them properly will take up a lot of space.

Thanks for the pictures. If this was made of metal

We could all receive more dents, chips, scratches, slashes and how fun is that game?!

This should be moved from the steelbook section now as anything different will never live up to the almighty steel (that 90% of users on here complain about for various reasons :hilarious:)

Looking forward to receiving mine as theyre better than an amaray :)

Lets face it mate, you're not happy with anything :hilarious:

These could be improved a lot if they had a slipcover- what do you guys think?...some more ramblings about the 'Fr4me'...
(please note- I did not close the frame correctly so it looks a little loose on the top of the spine- it's not defective)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Qzy...rd Amaray because it wouldn't be seen though.

That is one of the problems with it, you could end up with a row of identical cases with no way of telling them apart. I am still going to reserve opinion until I have one in my hands and see how it feels.

I like that you can move the artwork around so that specs can be displayed on the back in a shop but moved to the inside if you buy. However, that's all I like and it isn't much! Aesthetically, they don't much appeal to me but the lack of title on the spine combined with the extra few milimetres of width make them impractical for most Blu-Ray collections.

Thanks for the videos, dubliner! All that effort to change the card...blimey! Dunno who thought this crap up or why they felt it would compete with amaray/steel at all.

lol yeah I think I was breaking out in a sweat near the end lol...after a few tries tho it's quite easy

If they had a slipcover you might as well have a standard Amaray because it wouldn't be seen though.

...that's why I was suggesting a clear plastic sleeve- that way you can still see the Fr4me artwork and Scanavo can print the movie title on the spine of the outer plastic slipcover...but then it's getting awfully similar to a standard amaray with slipcover I guess?
...maybe these cases have been designed to hold PS4 and XBoxOne games?

Dubliner1: Thanks for the videos. Great suggestion with plastic sleeve as it would solve a couple of issues it already has but overall, the design of case looks terrible.

Yes, now that I've had it in my possession for several hours I'm liking it less and less...
It's definitely not collectible in any way. My biggest concern is that they might try to phase out regular amarays + slipcovers with these :(
Might work well for PS4 or XBoxOne games tho.

Thanks for the videos!

I still go with the idea that it's interesting to be able to change the arts and, but all the rest just doesn't make it worth it.

I don't see them doing well in games. I'd rather keep my old Amarays or get digital versions.

Should have a video in up shortly...here's a few pics in the meantime.
F4rame is same height and width as standard amaray but thicker- 16mm approx.

Thanks for those pictures! They certainly make things a lot clearer! Something I feel Scanavo should have done from the start

I'm now more convinced into collecting these, although I am still concerned about storing them in the traditional manner on a shelf, which seems to be something you can't do because of that "lip"

I assume that Scanavo will, at some point, be offering separate replacement frames for Fr4me cases? For example, I would prefer a blue frame for Oblivion instead of white, so will I be able to buy one on its own? If not, then what's the point of being able to remove it?

What about limited edition replacement artworks? At the moment it looks as if you only have a choice of displaying inside or outside artwork. I can imagine the potential, where some limited editions may offer a choice of two or three additional inserts, so you actually have more of a choice

Another thing that bothers me is their stability. That "lip" isn't very sturdy, and would make these very easy to accidentally knock over. How about some kind of "rack" to store multiple Fr4me releases on, a bit like a toast rack?

These could be improved a lot if they had a slipcover- what do you guys think?...some more ramblings about the 'Fr4me'...

I definitely think a horizontal slipcover is in order. Preferably made of plastic, similar to the NES dust covers or MiniDisc covers you used to get. They definitely need something to square them off a bit so that they can be stored vertically on a shelf like normal Amarays if space is a premium (which I guess the majority of people will eventually do if they own a lot of these)

Everything you said in that video should be fixed by Scanavo / Universal before the next Fr4me release. If these are supposed to be the next new collectible thing, then they should listen to the consumers who are likely going to be buying them!

If Scanavo fix these minor issues with a plastic horizontal slipcover, then I would definitely be up for collecting these - So long as we don't get flooded with releases like we have SteelBooks and Digibooks...

*** Be aware guys the UK disc has the M83 Isolated Score in lossy DTS 5.1 (the US has lossless Dolby TrueHD 5.1)...
I'm not normally one for soundtracks/scores but the one on this is truly outstanding (on the US bluray release anyhow)
