The former Play.com Product Buyer of SteelBooks.

All this time his identity has been kept secret. He gave the go-ahead to do this introduction and it's truly an honor / honour.

He's a hardcore collector now like many of you. And I may have had a lot to do with that. :joy:

Some things that he's responsible of making happen and credit to the HDN Staff as well. @digitalbabe @apsmith21

Winner of a 'SB Of The Year' award, the Terminator HDN voted inside art, an end to printed logos and rears, mandatory inside art, front & rear 'bossing, a few grail reprints saved and countless other industry firsts and disasters avoided.

He was one of the first and most active Product Buyers to work hand in hand with HDN for many things and it's been an absolute joy working with him throughout the years.

You all might know him as .... @zoneism

If you own any great Play Steels he had a lot to do with them and he's a Ninja for life! :woot:

There's a LOT of great steels amongst them. The only problems I ever had with the Play steels were the horizontal ones (especially The Thing....you must have been away that week, zoneism :vomit::yuck::wtf::D), plus one or two would have benefited from a gloss finish - but that's a tiny number of complaints over the course of the entire Play set, so that's pretty good going

There were some really good one but many were average and some were terrible (the Buena Vista wave for example).

Some of the early ones were poor - 'In Time' and Rise of the Planet of the apes had printed backs, printed ratings plus no inside art if I remember right. But they improved massively after that - Zulu is one of my particular favourites.

It wouldn't be fair to name anyone in particular, but the horizontals and the BV wave were not done 'on my watch'. The guys here on HDN will back me up on that. In fact the BV wave was a shock to a few of us there, especially because of no inside art! That was definitely a step back in the wrong direction :sorry:

Personally I have never been a huge fan of horizontals. But I would say that some of the horizontal ones we releases had very nice art and finishes on them. It was one of the directions from the studio around their anniversary to do horizontals, and I would have loved to see some of them (or all) released as verticals instead; Hulk for example.

I must be in the minority of people who really liked the horizontal steels. I've got Casino, Hulk, An American Werewolf in London, Carlito's Way etc and honestly think they're all stunning and very high quality catalogue titles. Universal were on top of their game with those IMHO, looking at Universal's recent efforts at Zavvi (King Kong, Fast & Furious, The Purge, Lucy) were all a bit underdone and the steel feels cheap and plasticy. Plus, paper j-cards :wtf:

@zoneism after looking at your picture with them all I actually have more than I realised. I actually thought some in that collection was for other retailers like terminator salvation. Glad you've cleared that up for me lol. I'm a fan of some of the horizontal ones like the thing, american werewolf, Shaun of the dead, Scott pilgrim, watchmen and serenity.
Anyway thanks again pal
