I assumed these batches were futurepaks due to some of the stock images, but amazon is stating they are steelbooks for some reason.

Easy mistake to make mate... both Amazon and Zavvi have wrongly listed them as Steelbooks/Steelpacks. You're not the first to post about them in here, and you may not be the last either.

How do you guys tell the difference?

The easiest way to tell the difference is to just look at the spine. (Where the title is on the side) there are HINGES instead of a flat surface
