I have to admit i love the 1960 Time Machine. There's a bit in the book which would have been wonderful to have had in the film but it's would have been impossible to work visually. Works in the book but could not work in the film.

In the book at the beginning you see all the guests appearing for the demonstration but one of the visitors is never spoken too or even speaks. It's a very very deeply buried moment. It's the traveler as an old man coming back to visit his younger self but it would be impossible to make it work in the film. So while the film's ending is a bit more open as to what happens to him, with the book it's not.

I've never read the book unfortunately, so obviously wasn't aware of that twist... definitely a very cool idea though! And whilst we're on the subject of this film... I actually quite enjoyed the remake with Guy Pearce (I literally only just learned that it was directed by H. G. Well's great-grandson). In fact, I saw that before even seeing the original film. :bag:

I enjoyed the remake as well. A lot better than people give it credit for.... Certainly a remake that is worthy of the original and the morlocks in the new one are just as terrifying......
To be honest I do laugh because in the original 1960 one we have basically a 30 year old guy who has the hots for a 17 year old. Don't think you would get away with that in this day and age....
But it is funny to watch.......

To be fair I first read the book when I was about 12 and even though I'd read it loads of times it wasn't until I was about 35 I caught on the twist and even then that was by mistake and I suddenly noticed something in a paragraph I'd never spotted before.. That was my doe moment.

Hard to believe it's 50 years ago and a rare running commentary from a cast of a film from that era....

Lovely mix of horror and comedy. Always love the line from the cop when Charlie tries to convince him he has a vampire living next door.

I loved that movie as a kid!
I think it is also the same Tarantula in The Three Stooges HAVE ROCKET WILL TRAVEL!

The morlocks are definitely a lot scarier in the remake! To be honest I laughed every time they appeared in the original, but oddly enough that's part of why I enjoyed it so much... similar to Kong in the original King Kong. :p

Ha damn, I hadn't realised there was such a big age difference. She was pretty cute though... even with a name like Weena.
