Original announcement:
In addition to the episodes of a new Star Wars trilogy, Lucasfilm and Disney have begun development on multiple stand-alone movies that will offer new stories beyond the core Saga. Gareth Edwards will direct the first stand-alone film, with a screenplay by Gary Whitta. The film is due out December 16, 2016.

Gareth Edwards blazed into the filmmaking forefront with his acclaimed work on Monsters, a film he wrote, directed and served on as cinematographer and visual effects artist. The skill and vision readily apparent in Monsters earned him the high-profile spot directing this year's smash hit Godzilla.

"Ever since I saw Star Wars I knew exactly what I wanted to do for the rest of my life - join the Rebel Alliance! I could not be more excited & honored to go on this mission with Lucasfilm, said Edwards.

Gary Whittas screenwriting credits include 2010s The Book of Eli starring Denzel Washington. He is also well known as a journalist and editor in the video game industry, as well as part of the BAFTA award-winning team on Telltale Games adaptation of The Walking Dead.

Whitta states, "From the moment I first saw the original movie as a wide-eyed kid, Star Wars has been the single most profound inspiration to my imagination and to my career as a writer. It is deeply special to me,so to be given the opportunity to contribute to its ongoing legacy, especially in collaboration with a film-maker as talented as Gareth,is literally a dream come true. I'm still pinching myself."

Saw it last night! Thought it was great!

But...
I was a little disappointed that my favorite scene from the trailer was cut out!

Like WHY WOULD YOU CUT THIS!? I was waiting the whole movie for this to happen!!!!
I'm really hoping there is an extended cut.

I also wish there was more Darth Vader. That scene near the end was EPIC!!! and I was sad there wasn't more. I had hoped him and Jyn would have faced off.

Lots of other great fan service too! So many cameos! I loved it. What was everyones fav one?

My personal Star Wars Rankings:
1. EMPIRE STRIKES BACK
2. FORCE AWAKENS
3. RETURN OF THE JEDI
4. A NEW HOPE
5. ROGUE ONE
6. REVENGE OF THE SITH
7. THE PHANTOM MENACE
8. ATTACK OF THE CLONES

Just got back from watching this and it was ****ing awesome!!!:OMG::OMG::OMG::thumbs:

A bit disappointed that some of the scenes in the trailer didn't make the final cut.

In this edit, looks like Jyn makes it to the beach with the plans...

/Film has a full article on all the missing shots.
Dammit there I go again clicking on those damn spoilers! That's a shame about the cut scenes from the trailers! :( I doubt Disney will release an Extended Edition, guess we'll have to enjoy them on the deleted scenes special feature from the bluray...

this is one i have been waiting for now so hyped to see my tickets been booked for a month now.
imax tomorrow dragging the wife kicking and screaming whether she wants to or not:D

i havent heard 1 person moan about it

as to about the cut scenes love to hope disney does an extended cut on the steel, which i know is highly unlikely

I know it's a bold thing to say but for me this is up there, tied first with Empire. As much as I love TFA it's not a patch on this.
For me it's:

1. EMPIRE STRIKES BACK
=. ROGUE ONE
3. RETURN OF THE JEDI
4. THE FORCE AWAKENS
5. A NEW HOPE
6. REVENGE OF THE SITH
7. ATTACK OF THE CLONES
8. THE PHANTOM MENACE

RO is a pretty fast paced, doesn't drag in places and has the benefit of being able to foreshadow without throwing up questions. Plus the cameos........ and the end.

Also, that article about the cut scenes is really interesting. I feel they made the right choices to make it a much leaner film.

I really loved this movie even though it’s not nearly as fun as The Force Awakens. But honestly, the core of this movie is very serious and gritty and this is easily the darkest of all the mainstream Star Wars movies. Empire Strikes Back may still have the darkest and best ending, but overall, this is the darkest and grimmest Star Wars movie. Think of this as Magnificent Seven but within the Star Wars universe.

Pros:
The last 30 minutes of the movie, specifically the last 5 minutes are pure awesome if you’re a Star Wars fan of the OT
Donnie Yen’s intro fight scene (wish we had more of this)
Best dog fights to date with really good use of scope and a great, but minimal use of Vader
Simple, yet effective storyline that addresses one of the biggest issues of A New Hope

Cons:
A slow burn start and some predictable/cliché actions near the end
A uninteresting main villain (I wanted/expected more from Krennic/Ben Mendelsohn)
Mildly distracting CGI for certain scenes/characters

Overall this was a really good movie, and with higher highs than The Force Awakens, even though The Force Awakens is more fun. Rogue One isn’t as good as the OT, but it’s leagues above the PT and I’d rate is slightly better than The Force Awakens. But that’s mostly because the last 5 minutes are awesome and it will likely go down as one of the best Star Wars sequences ever. Go watch this in IMAX 3D if possible, it’s completely worth the trip to the theaters.

I enjoyed it, I would rank the films thusly:
Return of the Jedi
The Force Awakens
Rogue One
Return of the Jedi
Star Wars (A New Hope)
Revenge of the Sith
Attack of the Clones
Phantom Menace

It's kind of funny, as a standalone I think rogue one is better than the force awakens but I ranked it lower in my ranking because it seems detached. Obviously this was by design and it was gritty with real stakes. Definitely don't need to convince this crowd but it's definitely worth checking out in theaters.

well just got back and have to say without giving anything away liked the darker tone tbh but also is odd humorous comments from one character.
the 3d was done well and added to it imho. as stand alone it does it well in its own right for me as a star wars fan i loved it, my wife who was dragged alone kicking all the way said she prefered tfa tbh so we agreed to differ :hilarious:

anyway this will sell out fast once people have been to see it over the christmas period when there all off from work.

my advice to all those on the fence about this pre-order now and go see and then decide whether to keep it or not.
otherwise you hang on too long it will be to late and this will sell out without doubt imho

as to the comment i'll wait till it drops to x price will not happen.

make of it what you will
