Waxwork Records is thrilled to present the deluxe soundtrack re-issue to 1982’s sci-fi horror classic, JOHN CARPENTER’S THE THING. Composed by the legendary Ennio Morricone, the soundtrack to THE THING is a landmark musical composition that is cold, dark, minimal, and effective.

Considered to be John Carpenter’s directorial masterpiece, THE THING is praised as one of the greatest films of it’s genre by both fans and critics. Starring Kurt Russell and A. Wilford Brimley, THE THING follows a team of researchers in Antarctica as they are infiltrated by a parasitic extraterrestrial life form that assimilates other organisms and then imitates them. The classic soundtrack composed by Ennio Morricone effectively captures the cold, isolated tone of the story and film, and marks one of the few John Carpenter directed films that Carpenter did not score himself.

Waxwork Records worked for two years to ensure that such a highly anticipated and sought after vinyl soundtrack re-issue would meet and exceed expectations of the biggest fan of John Carpenter and his sci-fi / horror tour de force that is THE THING.

Features include the complete Ennio Morricone soundtrack re-mastered from the original master tapes, your choice of two different 180 gram colored vinyl variants, all new artwork by Justin Erickson of Phantom City Creative, deluxe heavyweight packaging including satin coated old-style gatefold jackets with UV spot-gloss varnish, an 11” x 22” poster, a custom hand assembled breakaway “ice” slipcase with 100% overall UV gloss coating, and an exclusive interview with director John Carpenter.

I'm really not sure if I should get one. The excitement has gone with how last minute they left this

I think waxwork are taking the p*ss a little with price of the deluxe and the absence of the book in the snow version

and booklet but more limited pressing of a different coloured vinyl too

Fair dos but the other variant is still a coloured vinyl so it shouldn't bump the price up. And the booklet will be like 4 pages, pennies to print. They are taking the p*ss a little

It seems like the Deluxe Edition is sold out now. If you missed out stay on it and keep refreshing since there will cancellations coming back and of course stuff in cards that will get back into the stock.

On a personal note, 70 USD for the Deluxe is outrageous. Mondo did similar releases for half of the price. On the other hand, Waxwork is a lot smaller than Mondo is today.
So Waxwork is probably paying a lot for Licenses where Mondo probably cover those deals with Prints and Vinyl. Waxwork did releases with Universal, Warner Brothers and Paramount.
So maybe that's why they charge a lot more than other retailers. At least that's what I make out of it..

But, a real let down is the shipping cost for me. It's 49 USD for this to me to Germany. Makes it 119 USD for the Deluxe Edition. Shipping for the regular Snow Edition is 22 USD.
Can't see why they double the cost for just a Slipcover and a Booklet. I've ordered the Deluxe since I sold a Steelbook today, so that makes up for it. But I contacted Waxwork to ask if they're serious with the shipping cost.

There's something really off with the deluxe release and the pricing for the item and shipping. No wonder they left it until live time to show us price and info.

Don't make sense the excessive price for a slip and thin book and the same on the shipping price

I've gone for that standard white one anyway

I took the dog out for a pee and then went to my computer to find out the deluxe went on sale and sold out. Dammit!!! That said, the price is outrageous. I love The Thing and that's a beautiful package, but I'd be looking at $160 CAD at least to buy it.

The Standard "Snow" Edition is also selling fast: You can only add 588 The Thing - Snow to the cart.

I have the standard in my cart, but I decided to opt out of this release altogether. I love The Thing and love this score, but for me, I'm looking at $48 USD after shipping... that's $60+ CAD. I just don't have that kind of disposable at the moment. It would've been great to have all this kind of info WAY ahead of time -- pre-order date/time, costs -- so I could've put some money aside. Oh, well.

I don't think they hold it back for that reason. Probably because to avoid a server crash. Some Group Buys here also happened like that. When a time was announced HDN was slowing down or totally gone. So they randomly dropped. It has it pros and cons. And to be honest, there was never a Waxwork release before where that have mattered. Leon, Warriors or Taxi Driver was in stock for very long and some are still in stock. Not to mention all the horror related OSTs. This was next to the 100 copies of Friday the 13th liquid vinyl the fastest selling release by Waxwork.

But 32 USD for the standard edition is a regular price bud. They're usually around 25 USD - 35 USD from all retailers. From Mondo and Waxwork for premium titles usually around 30-35 USD. And this was mentioned on some of the previous pages here in this thread. The 70 for the Deluxe is a little bit off that's correct.

I thought waxwork put all the details out before hand like tridon said so you can make plans and know what it is your spending. I've never know them to do it like this and keep All info (except the variant) u till pre order

Who knows but there's defo something fishy with the shipping price for the variant
