Mylo Boyd (Gerard Butler) is a bounty hunter who’s only real pass time is gambling. Well his luck is about to change, he is being asked to go and bring a woman by the name of Nicole Hurley who has skipped bail. The best part about this particular job is that Nicole is his ex-wife and he is looking forward to bring her into justice in order to ridicule her. Meanwhile, Nicole has problems of her own, her investigation has uncovered a secret on a recent suicide that has attracted the attention of local organized crime. Now Mylo and Nicole on the road back to turn her into custody, but along the way a series of escapes has closed down the chase of some shady individuals. Now they are on the run away from the bad guys and avoiding falling in love again.

With all the romantic comedies released in up to date, I haven’t been able to find one that stands taller than the others. At least bring in some freshness, some new ideas, and new execution. The Bounty Hunter fails to deliver everything I just mentioned. It feels like that same old thing repackaged with a new name and new actors. The Bounty Hunter was a good idea gone badly. The movie attempted a mixture of adventure and romanticism, but by the end of the movie you will be left with an unsatisfied feeling. In order to reach any sort of “action”, anything relevant for that matter, it takes a long time. What I mean is that the movie drags with the pacing being so unbelievably slow. When you finally reach an enjoyable situation it is quickly over. My biggest complaint with the story is that it quickly becomes predictable as if you have seen it before and you know exactly what’s going to happen next. I suppose if you are a romantic comedy fanatic this might be up your alley, I’d be surprised though.

The Bounty Hunter was heavily relied on its two stars, Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler, but even the film fails with the cast. Don’t get me wrong or even misinterpret my statement, both actors are great at what they do, but perhaps this film wasn’t meant to be the one where they both could collaborate and something positive came out. The chemistry between them was non-existent and it was very obvious during the first half of the movie. I’ve seen different romantic comedies with Aniston and I know she can be much better. As far as Butler, maybe romcom is not his forte. The director played his cards and at the end they weren’t sufficient to pull the entire ship around. The film had its moments, but those were very few to keep the viewers even mildly entertained.

The Bounty Hunter arrives on Blu-ray with a 1080p MPEG4-AVC encode framed at 2.35:1. The colors in the film can be vibrant, especially blue and red, but during some stretches they appeared very warm. Skin tones take a rather red and warm tone which to the film’s defense some recent romantic comedies have featured this same thing so I am a bit inclined to believing this is how this type of film should look liked. Regardless, it is not of my taste. Fine detail looks very good throughout the film. The Bounty Hunter is certainly is not one of Sony’s usual eye candy, but it serves the film fine.

The Bounty Hunter Arrives on Blu-ray with a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio lossless track. The dialogue is clear for the majority of the movie. The mix is rather uninspiring, the rears are hardly ever used for ambience effect. Even during scenes were the it’s very lively suffer from the way the mix was created. The track never truly feels immersive at all. The score does sound clear and loud throughout the film that takes over the entire sound stage. The track isn’t really a let down as it does a good job with the type of of film that The Bounty Hunter is. The film won’t really put your home theater to work as it only delivers the bare minimum.

What else can I say? The Bounty Hunter was rather mediocre. The Bounty Hunter doesn’t exactly set apart from the rest of romantic comedies, instead it just sets itself as another generic chick flick. The video and audio transfers are not what Sony has been used to provide, but they serve the purpose. The supplements appear to be more as forced rather than informational as they don’t add absolutely anything. If you don’t exactly like romantic comedies skip it, otherwise, I suggest a rent before spending your money.
