Disney’s A Christmas Carol Blu-ray 3D Review

Disney’s A Christmas Carol is once again a magical hit that takes the timeless tale from Charles Dickens and crafts it once more. It’s almost as if it never gets old, especially for kids who have never heard the story, or seen for that matter. This movie is definitely one of a kind, in the sense of new age animation. I truly loved watching it with the family and believe you will too. Sure, I probably only want to watch it about a couple times in a year. However, my daughter has already watched it 3 times. 😉 It’s a fun movie, and can keep your attention amongst what many might believe is even a slow start during the character development.

The story is of the classic tale of a man named Ebeneezer Scrooge who coined the famous saying bah humbug! Though this movie is very far from bah humbug. As elementary is the story may be of a man who quite frankly hates Christmas, and is rude to mostly all. It touches you as they scare the meaness out of him and he comes back a thoughtful caring old man who keeps on giving to others.

The famous Jim Carrey plays the part of Scrooge as well as all the ghosts of Christmas past. Carrey delivers voices that are unique and not always easily detected as that of his own. His performance is dead on and and his voices sell the characters and add depth to each character. Jimy Carrey fans will definitely be pleased and kids always love Carrey’s fun-going attitude. Albeit scrooge isn’t very fun loving until the end. 😉 Though the Ghosts of Christmas past can be a hoot. Last year when this was being promoted I took my youngster to the amtrack station where the train rolled in and it was spectacle all on its own. The attention to detail that Disney puts into their marketing is no different then that of which that goes into these huge budget films. You know the story, now see it like you never have before!

Outstanding! That sums it up very well indeed! Disney’s A Christmas Carol comes to you in a wonderful eye-popping 1080p transfer that is sure to give everyone some Christmas joy. Easily in the top ten in terms of video quality. Those with 3d capability will definitely be in for a treat as just watching the 2d version you could easily see the many scenes that were crafted for a 3d experience. As for the 3d eperience, it totally engulfs you with its eye popping moment and when the snowing is falling. Scenes like when he races through in that sled are perfectly crafted for the new blu-ray 3d. The colors are dead on, eye popping or reeking of extreme clarity in the letters above in the screenshot. There are lot of great dark blacks and even eye popping vibrant scenes as well but the mixture of the two is what makes this movie watching experience seamless. It doesn’t look like some huge fake animated movie for the majority of the time due to the attention to detail in regards to realism replication of the colors chosen. Aged wood is a prime example, as opposed to just using some brown peice of wood that shows no depth. Anyone and everyone will be pleased with this video quality.

Disney’s a Christmas Carol comes to you with a merry DTS HD Master audio track that will rock your stockings off. It’s mostly a dialogue driven track however when the bass does come into play it is definitely quality and totally immersive. There really isn’t a whole to complain about here as most everything is spot on and what I do like is the rears seem to get more usage in this flick than many other disney movies. Of course its a front heavy track but it will engulf you on many scenes when the chase is on so to speak with the ghosts of Christmas past. Great audio here folks.

“Capturing Dickens: A Novel Retelling” focuses on just that, retelling the famous story from Charles Dickens. It’s a nice piece and fairly informational. Also included is a countdown to Christmas Interactive Calendar which is really cool. It basically shows the doors for the days and you can open up on each day. This disc will definitely be seeing more action in my household come December. Another cool feature or more like preview is that of the upcoming Blu-ray 3D title for Timon and Pumbaa. If you are not familiar to whom that is, they are characters from The Lion King. It looks funny and cool. The commentary track with inside picture in picture is very informational and overall fun piece that doesn’t drag on. thumbs up.

Additional features include:

On The Set with Sammi – Very interesting peice on how they film for this animated movie. Sammi plays the part of Scrooge’s childhood sister. Pretty insane that they have to have black dots all over their faces. Though I wish the peice could be a bit more educational as I wonder if this was for the 3d filming.

“Learn How to take your movies on the go” – Kind of rubbing salt on the wounds here, seeing as how their is no digital copy in this version.

And six deleted scenes – Some very small, some decent, interesting no doubt.

Though, some of the best things are the extra forms of the content. You get the blu-ray 3d, the blu-ray, dvd and digital copy!!! And those who are into slip covers will get one of the best slip covers to date. 3d like appearance in a lenticular slip cover with embossed lettering.

The Bottom Line is in terms of why would one buy this movie. Simply put if your looking to add another Christmas movie to your collection, and a darn good one at that then look no further than Disney’s A Christmas Carol. The story is timeless, and known by many. However, the video quality and presentation of the film amongst Jim Carrey’s character portrayals is top notch! That being said, it’s a great movie to add to your collection and you won’t be catching Z’s when trying to watch this one with the kiddos. It’s definitely entertaining to all. The 3d is awesome with so many eye popping scenes and projectiles that come at you. Great movie all around. Highly recommended.
