The Green Hornet 3D Blu-ray Review

The Green Hornet comes to blu-ray disc, and I for one was excited to receive this one. I was really anxious to see what my opinion would be of the film when it was all said and done. The Green Hornet didn’t get the best rap from many theatrical reviews I had read. The difference is, I’m your normal-regular Joe who watches movies. I dont have to cough my nuts up from laughter to enjoy a comedy, I don’t have to crap my pants to mark for a horror movie, and I surely don’t have to sweat man tears to declare my devotion to a drama.

So when it comes to an action flick, that’s what I want! Action! The exception to this is no one wants action that is played out, redundant, been-there-done-that, older than your Grandma’s dentures! I want innovation, explosives, to put it bluntly ; Cool Shit! So the question begs to be asked, did The Green Hornet have any “Holy crap, did that just happen!?” moments? Could the IP Man make Jason Statham beg for mum? YES! Thats’ right, The Green Hornet is one HELL of a popcorn action flick. The Director Michel Gondry took Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg’s vision and transformed it into one innovative kick-ass action flick!

This is not your run of the mill super hero action flick. You will not see some chubby Rogan hanging upside down putting the lips to Cameron Diaz. You will see the opposite of damn near everything you are used to in an action flick, and it works! I’ll be the first to admit, I didn’t grow up watching The Green Hornet series; so if you don’t like the movie because you’re too old to envision anything else, don’t blame me!

The Green Hornet comes your way with an explosive 1080p video transfer. This film looks great on blu-ray and for its sheer action sequences alone its a great movie to add to your collection. The colors stay true to form and the blacks are black. Cool guns and awesome explosives make a great blu-ray video quality when the transfer is done right, and it was.

Now that we’ve taken care of the 2D version of this combo pack, let’s talk about how the film fairs in 3D. Right out of the bat I will tell you the film was not filmed in 3D and the effects were applied to the film after it was finished. This procedure isn’t always bad, just look at what was done with Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, but The Green Hornet is neither the best nor the worst conversion job. Colors remain well resolved. Black levels are deep and stable. The 3D effects offer some depth in between the 3D objects. Objects do appear to have good 3D conversion; however, they never seem to standout in the various 3D intensive scenes. On top of it all, the 3D images appear to have some ghosting. Overall, the film looks decent on 3D.

The Green Hornet is one hell of a movie for a true testament of a blu-ray audio track. The movie is packed with incredible guns, explosives, crashes, etc. There by making it one hell of a movie to display a blu-ray audio track in HD audio. Your front speakers will carry the bulk of this audio load on this track along with the center channel. However, the rears are utilized nicely to engulf you in some shoot out moments. It’s the sub that really goes to work on this movie. It’s INSANE! Awesome audio track!

It’s time for the bottom line and it’s time for a quick run down for those who aren’t interested in reading the above. The video and audio quality are great on The Green Hornet. If you’re into a good action popcorn flick then you can’t go wrong with The Green Hornet. It may be different a bit from The Green Hornet of the past, but it’s still got plenty of originality that adds more to the future of this franchise. There’s a decent amount of supplements as well, all in all it’s a great disc to add to your collection.
