Rise of the Planet of the Apes takes over the Box Office’s Number One Spot

Movie lovers did not really know what know what to expect from the recently released ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’. Despite of that fact, after earning $54 million this weekend, nothing could stop the film from jumping directly to the top spot in the box office chart. After earning $23.4 million in 25 markets abroad, the film also became an instant international hit as well.

It is hard to categorize ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ as a prequel or a sequel, but it is safe to say that it is more of a reboot by Twentieth Century Fox’, of The Planet of the Apes franchise. Unlike the original 1968 sci-fi classic that starred Charlton Heston or the 2001 reboot by Fox that starred Mark Wahlberg, this latest reboot stars James Franco. It interprets the original series of films in a new perspective.

Even though Cowboys & Aliens was successful topping the box office two weeks ago after a tie in with The Smurfs, this time it is The Smurfs by Sony Pictures Animation that has made it to the second spot. Thus Cowboys & Aliens have settled for third place in the box office.

Films like ‘The Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ can definitely be considered a rare ordeal and therefore it should definitely be reveled. Even though this recent reboot cannot be compared to the original classic, but it cannot be doubted that with all the 21st century filmmaking technology, this film will surely be entertaining.
