Blu-ray release of the Guns of Navarone has been planned by the American branch of Sony Pictures and is expected to be released on the 18th of October.
The 1957 novel written by Alistair MacLean of the same name served as inspiration for this 1961 British-American war film. Anthony Quinn (Last Action Hero), Anthony Quayle, David Niven (Casino Royale), Gregory Peck (The Omen) and Stanley Baker are included among the cast of the film. Both the novel and the film share a similar plot that follows the cast of the film who play the roles of Allied commandos who are on a mission to penetrate the German fortress that poses a threat to Allied naval ships in the Aegean Sea that are out there in the attempt of rescuing 2,000 isolated British troops.
Sony Picture Entertainment’s Senior Vice President for Asset Management, Digital Mastering and Film Restoration, Grover Crisp, recently gave an interview regarding the Blu-ray release of the film. He confirmed that while the film will indeed be being released on Blu-ray very soon, he gave an idea that its restoration can be compared to other recently Sony Blu-ray releases such as Taxi Driver and The Bridge on the River Kwai, which received a 4K digital restoration.
