It’s been a while since a Disney film was leading the box office but this weekend after earning a total of $20.5 million, Disney’s comedy drama film The Help claimed the top box office position. In spite of the fact that the film was at the second spot when it had debuted, it only took the film a mere midweek to take over the box office. The Help is a film that has been adapted from Kathryn Stockett’s 2009 novel of the same name. Just like the novel, the film revolves around black maids working in white households and particularly focuses on the relationship of Skeeter Phelan (Emma Stone) with the two black maids working in her house. The film is set in the 1960s during the American Civil Rights era.

Other films that have been quite notable this weekend at the box office include the Planet of the Apes that was a box office topper for two consecutive weekends. With its total earnings dropping down to $133.8 million this third weekend, the film itself dropped down to the second spot at the box office.

The much awaited Spy Kids: All the Time in the World in 4D had a $12 million debut and this weekend the film holds on to the third position at the box office. The fourth spot at the box office was taken by Conan the Barbarin the remake of the 1982 fantasy film that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger. Last but not least another remake, Fright Night managed to land in at the fourth spot at the box office this weekend.
