Starship Troopers: Invasion coming to Blu-ray on August 28th

Sony Pictures Entertainment has just announced the release of Starship Troopers: Invasion, an all new CGI animated feature, coming to Blu-ray August 28th, 2012. The film notes the return of Casper Van Dien as the executive producer with Ed Neumeier who is the screenwriter from the original film. To head the animation for the film, they brought in famed Japanese director Shinji Aramaki. His résumé includes Appleseed, Appleseed: Ex Machina and Halo: Legends.

The story follows the classic characters Johnny Rico, Captain Ibanez and Carl Jenkins to attack the massive infestation of bugs at a federation outpost. Before the survivors are rescued and evacuated, one of the ships aiding them goes dark and suddenly leaves. The troopers have to then investigate what went wrong.

The release will come with the Blu-ray, DVD, and UltraViolet Digital Copy. It also comes with 11 hours of bonus features. They include deleted scenes, filmmaker’s commentary, and an 11-part Making Of featurette which includes how the animation was achieved using motion capture with compositing. Extras exclusive to the Blu-ray include conceptual art gallery which showcases alien bugs and original designs of the movie ships.

As an added bonus to fans, the Blu-ray™ also features an exclusive Conceptual Art Gallery, showcasing the original designs of the movie’s ships, alien bugs, and more.
