Thor 1/6 Scale Figure Review

ThorHT-1

The mighty God of Thunder finally sees a release in North America as many delays plagued Hot Toys during the first quarter of 2013. With a price of $199 you couldn’t have asked for more to be honest. The figure belongs to The Avengers line of figures, but certain similarities can be found with the previously released Thor from the movie by the same name. With the updated headsculpt and a few new accessories, Thor is setting up to be one of my favorite figures released in 2013!

ThorHT-9

Where to begin? At first glance the box itself is very sleek and clean, with the same style as the previously released Hawkeye, Nick Fury and Black Widow. Upon taking out the box you can immediately see some fine craftsmanship. From head to feet the figure stands tall with an array of details that few companies can create. At this very point I haven’t even removed the figure out of the box! Taking the figure out and seeing it in hand with his cape out and hammer in hand, it’s just simply stunning! Yes, I’m a huge Thor fan!

The figure features Thor’s armor from The Avengers, which is not too drastically different from the movie Thor, nevertheless Hot Toys has captured every nook and cranny with an outmost attention to detail. The armor does have the chain mail type of arm sleeves. However, there is a trade off with having the armor and the sleeves, the mobility of the figure is hampered and it is very limited. I did find the joints to be extremely tight while posing.

ThorHT-8

The headsculpt is normally the cause of major outcry within the collecting community and even Thor didn’t entirely escape the criticism. The headsculpt is supposed to resemble Chris Hemsworth and while I can see his likeness, in the wrong lighting and angle it’s hard to tell. When the figure is in hand, the likeness is very very close. My only complaint is that the headsculpt was incredibly hard to move, the plastic was really tight and it took a while before I managed to slowly and carefully move it side to side.

ThorHT-17

The figure does include a set of accessories, for starters it includes 2 more pairs of hands for different poses, the capsule containing the Tesseract, and lastly Mjolnir. I was hoping for a Tesseract that could light up, but alas that was not the case. The Mjolnir is impressive! Yes, the hammer appears to be metallic and the level of details is fantastic! This hammer almost puts to shame my Mjolnir prop hammer. The only real complaint I have here is that no helmet was included. I know he didnt wear it in the movie, but it would of been a nice extra piece.

ThorHT-13

Marvel fan? Thor fan? Then you should add this to your collection, you will not be disappointed! As a suggestion, try to obtain a separate helmet from a 3rd party to complete the figure if you feel that it isn’t complete. Otherwise, the figure is solid.
