ACTION COMICS #1 sells for $3.2-million

Action comics 1The most sought-after comic in existence — and probably the most important comic to any collector — is DC’s ACTION COMICS #1. Featuring the first appearance of Superman/Clark Kent and Lois Lane, ACTION COMICS #1 marked the beginning of the golden age of comics. Being that it was published in June of 1938, there are only around 50-100 copies still in existence. The existing issues have been known to not be in the best of shape, but that all recently changed.

Several years ago, another copy of the book was sold for $2.1-million, but it was not in the shape of this piece. This particular comic was CGC graded as a 9.0 with bold coloring and brilliant white pages.

The final price was $3.2-million and 1% of the proceeds have gone to the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation,a charity that improves the lives of people living with paralysis. The comic will probably never be sold again in my lifetime, but it was a treat to see that the hype of the golden age is still strong.
