INDEPENDENCE DAY 2 resurges with new title

During yesterday’s livestream Q&A session for INDEPENDENCE DAY 2 — which included director Roland Emmerich as well as stars from the original film such as Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Sela Ward and Judd Hirsch — 20th Century Fox revealed the long-awaited sequel’s official title with a motion title:

INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE features a screenplay by Emmerich, Dean Devlin & James Vanderbilt, and James A. Woods & Nicolas Wright. Alongside the returning Goldblum, Pullman, Ward and Hirsch, the film also stars Liam Hemsworth, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner (though it’s unknown how he’ll actually appear within the new film), Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jessie Usher, and Maika Monroe. The synopsis is as follows:

We always knew they were coming back. After Independence Day redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE arrives in theaters June 24, 2016, nearly 20 years after the original film’s theatrical release. Until then, you can check out the ‘Independence Day: Resurgence LIVE’ livestream below:
